After Zohran Mamdani’s historic win in last week’s NYC mayoral election, ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt went on a media blitz denouncing the mayor-elect. The day after the election, Greenblatt boasted to CBS News about the ADL’s newly initiated “Mamdani Monitor,” claiming “He has made comments, he has endorsed policies, he has pushed ideas that have endangered Jewish New Yorkers.” On MSNBC he scoffed, “He went to an anti-Zionist synagogue, which is like going to the Black breakout at CPAC and saying you understand African Americans. I mean come on!” He told an Israeli podcast “You can be concerned about affordability, but to do it at the expense of Jewish New Yorkers? I don’t think that’s okay at all!” and “New Yorkers are alarmed! So we’re taking concrete steps to shut this down.” Concerning Mamdani’s massive support among Jewish NYers, Greenblatt continued his habit of condemning leftist Jews as antisemites: “Even if some Jewish New Yorkers voted for him, just because you’re Jewish doesn’t mean consciously or unconsciously you can’t traffic in antisemitism!”
It was only the most recent iteration of the ADL’s current trajectory. After running interference for Elon Musk’s Nazi salute and supporting the Trump Administration’s campaign to illegally kidnap, torture, imprison, and/or deport college students for protests, the ADL has accelerated its efforts to advance the cause of Nazism in the US: First by deleting its catalogue of white supremacist hate groups, then by removing “Protect Civil Rights” from its mission. Both changes were implemented to curry favor with unhinged, fever-swamped Trump administration antisemites and Trump-aligned Nazi polemicists. If you work at the ADL, or if you are a journalist who cites the ADL in any capacity, you are putting entire populations, including Jews, at risk.
After the election, Greenblatt went on “Morning Joe” to repeat his lies about the mayor-elect and to assert, with no apparent irony or self-awareness, “It is my job to make sure that every Jewish New Yorker isn’t living in fear.”

As the U.S. continues its descent into authoritarianism, far-right oligarchs have been racing to hollow out and neuter the country’s last remaining sources of news and information. Recently Skydance Media and Paramount, the owner of CBS News, promised to limit hiring from minority communities, pushed out senior producers at 60 Minutes, and paid off Trump $16 million to settle a baseless lawsuit in order to grease the wheels of the most corrupt presidency in American history to approve their merger. In one of his first moves as CEO of Paramount Skydance, right-wing heir David Ellison recruited Bari Weiss, the most vicious crusader against free speech and the most relentless disseminator of far-right propaganda since the Red Scare, to be Editor in Chief of CBS News. Aside from spreading genocide and famine denial that earned her public praise from serial killer Benjamin Netanyahu, Weiss’s previous major accomplishment was working with Elon Musk to concoct lies about the supposed suppression of the far-right in order to turn Twitter into the world’s leading engine of Nazi conspiracies and hate speech. As part of the nepotistic deal between two oligarchs with no journalistic experience, Ellison is paying an absurd $150 million to Weiss’s disinformation blog “The Free Press” while vowing massive cuts to CBS personnel who report, fact-check, edit, produce, and disseminate news. In addition to Weiss, Ellison is installing a separate right-wing monitor and censor who will work to ensure propaganda in favor of billionaire mobsters flows unimpeded.

During the most recent iteration of Israel’s premeditated genocide of the Palestinian people, images and reports emerged of Israel’s long-planned policy of starving the civilian population of Gaza—a policy whose most vulnerable and immediate victims have been children, toddlers, and babies. As politicians who had rushed to finance every step of the genocide issued bromides of concern, genocide advocates leapt into the fray to lecture us that the images were faked, or that Israel’s campaign of starvation was actually the fault of the Palestinians themselves. In one of the most grizzly turns, The New York Times, whose editors and publisher have gone to extraordinary lengths to assist the Israeli military in its misinformation and apologetics regarding the genocide, issued a bewildering “Correction” last week that you can see in the second slide. The higher-ups at the Times and the IDF apparently thought this text was exculpatory and not additionally damning, the kind of document that will be inscribed in cement in museums and memorials that will be built after the crimes against humanity trials. May every single person who orchestrated this unspeakable horror face justice quickly and in our days.
