Some favourite quotes I scribbled down during an inspiring weekend retreat with the King’s College London Philosophy Department
“I’m not going to tell you anything, because I don’t know anything. I’m going to puzzle over something with you.” - Prof. Lucy O’Brien beginning her talk, ‘Autonomy and Control Over One’s Social Self-Consciousness’ “The idea that you have to understand everything the first time around
kill that instinct.” - Dr. Stephen Harrop’s response to a question on how to approach philosophical texts “By the ‘world being final’, he means that we are bound irreducibly to the present moment.” - Matthew Jack Biley on Henry Bugbee in his environmental philosophy talk, ‘Deep Duties’ “I don’t know much about Armstrong, so it’s a question out of ignorance
” - an audience member in a post-talk Q&A “Get used to playing with ideas.” - Dr. Alex Grzankowski on doing philosophy Feeling extremely grateful to have had this time with friends, strangers-who-became-friends, and professors. & great ice water!! What an end to my first month in London đŸ’„

Designed for the EOS R System, this is a standard in anyone’s kit. Compact, lightweight and close-focusing, its perfect for everyday walkaround shooting. The stepping motor delivers fast, quiet and smooth autofocusing. And the bright aperture creates buttery background blur, even in low-light.

What happens when you offer people space to play? Watch as they release the urgency, fear and seriousness they’ve been carrying — things that have been so convincingly rationalized as proper adult practicality. There is something subtly transformative about such rich, sincere human connection. For when it’s all over, even if shoulders rise and foreheads crinkle again — they stay a little lower. A little less tense. A little freer. At best, there’s a glimpse of a way of living more at ease than we tend to. And the fantastic realization that you need not sacrifice your drive, sharpness, or intelligence to get there. Co-facilitating two days of Playfight events with my dear friend Dominik Mattner (founder of Playfight Berlin) was beyond delightful. And nestled in between, a small private screening of @playfightfilm was a wonderful way to celebrate the fact that exactly one year ago, we were shooting the film in Berlin. Thank you to everyone who came out to play ❀ #playfight #philosophyofplayfulness #portrait #portraitsphotography #naturephotography #play #shotoncanon #shortfilm #usuallywedothisnakedwithoil

An afternoon in Yorkville with the timeless @skylar.petrah This actor, model, and philosopher has turned 30! No more fitting way to celebrate than to hit the streets and make art đŸ’„ Even Toronto’s out-of-the-blue downpour could not dampen our mood — only brining wider smiles and a rush of creativity. Always a joy playing and discovering with you, my friend! Happy 30th! #portrait #model #torontoactor #yorkville #portraitphotography

There were three reasons why I decided to start learning guitar—after having resigned myself to the idea that it just wasn’t going to happen in my lifetime. I’ve always wanted to play, but my only experience with an instrument was a fairly unremarkable fling with the clarinet in middle school. So I just never had the experience of falling in love with the process of becoming a musician. But I’ve always held that one of the Greatest Possible Human Experiences is the sound of guitar and laughter by the crackle of a campfire. And the only other phrase I hear more than “do you do yoga?” is “you look like you play the guitar.” It felt like it was about time. And given my love for creatively colliding with musicians and composers—and my determination to continue these collaborations for the rest of my life—it makes sense to learn a bit of their language first hand. But there was one reason that pushed me over the edge. I’ve recently found that—even if you’re a wordsmith with the power to play gracefully with emotions and ideas in spoken or written form—language is a fairly low-resolution way of articulating emotion. Music seems to offer a much higher (perhaps infinitely high) resolution for expressing emotion. Just listening isn’t quite enough. #selfportrait #photography #guitar #manbunnedguitarist #idontdoyoga

A breathtaking evening of neoclassical and ambient music for violin and electronics in 3D sound. It was a real pleasure experiencing this in Berlin’s beautiful Tabor Church. Since directing a music video for one of Alexey’s new tracks (coming soon!) I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know him better and celebrating some of his recent accomplishments. He’s an enormously talented artist—keep an eye on @5.string.theory And on @ibundin too—his soundscapes and immersive spatial sound design were stunning. #violin #musicphotography #concert #concertphotography #berlinmusic #3dsound #spatialsound #berlinart

23! Boom!!! My birthday this year was an opportunity for a surreal moment—to step back after 6 months in Berlin and take a good look at some of the astonishing people I’ve met. Our little celebration/picnic/climbing/frisbee/dance/cult group represented a collision of some of the insanely talented and delightful people from various circles. Filmmakers, Playfighters, musicians, climbers, psychedelic researchers & explorers
all of whom who I am incredible grateful to have formed friendships with. What a journey it’s been so far :) Thank you to everyone—and all my friends & family overseas—for the sweetest birthday wishes. Sending all my love all over ❀ & Special thanks to @eugeniopulvirenti for those first two shots & my new GQ cover hehe

WHAT A SHOW!!! I had a day of solo travel at the end of my trip to Amsterdam and decided to check out @paradisoadam that evening. Loooong story short, I end up talking my way into a media pass and suddenly stumbling into a room where @dabeull was lighting up one of the most gorgeous venues I’ve been to. And just like that, the night is spent shooting photos, vibing out to funk music, and being engulfed by a raging Amsterdam crowd. What a trip. Boooom!!! #livemusicphotography #concertphotography #dabeull #amsterdam #amsterdammusic #paradisoamsterdam #photography #solotravel #funkmusic

BOOM! Recieving one of Morgan’s “DUDE I have a crazy idea” texts is always delightful. This time, it was an invitation to fly me out for three days to roll with the @bankesbrothers on a UK Tour in support of @redrumclub This was a first for all of us. The first time The Bankes Brothers have set out for an international tour, and the first time I’ve been flown out internationally for creative work. Living the life of a rockstar for three days was wonderful and INTENSE! You wake up to grab an early breakfast at whichever hotel, and then set out on the road almost immediately. A couple hours later, you’re in another city, beelining for the next hotel to quickly drop your things. Then you’re off to the venue to load in equipment, a quick window for a meal if you’re lucky, and back for sound-checks. Which, funnily enough, was a highlight for me! It’s stunning, watching musicians up on a stage in an empty theatre (save for the sound engineer), pouring their hearts out – and then as soon as it’s over, it’s a casual “meh, could I have a touch more feedback on my monitor?” followed by a thousand of the slightest tweaks. I’m familiar with a similar process in filmmaking. After watching a rough cut, you don’t burst out into applause for yourself. You proceed to tear into every imperfection. At this stage, your eyes and ears are turned for error. Nonetheless, there was something magical about witnessing the contrast between hearing these guys meticulously mould their sound to an empty room, and then watching them perform later that night to sold out crowds stomping and hollering along to their music. Then you throw away any hope of sleep (if you’ve only got one night in that city, whatcha gonna do?), live it up
and it begins again. Riding along with you guys was a blast đŸ’„ Thank you for having me!! #livemusic #livemusicphotography #concertphotography #uktour #canadianmusic
