Colab: Sout Al-Shaab || Voice of the People || صوت الشع ب led by William Sukkar @williamsukkar “This project is a culmination of Arabic music and dance, working with original compositions, an element of improvisation, and adaptation of traditional dances, such as Dabke, a popular dance of the Shami countries (Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan).
Our goal is balancing tradition and modernity, between eastern and western performing arts, through collaboration. The music is filled with exhilarating dance rhythms and melodies of the microtonal Maqamat scales. This will involve improvisations on the composed music and allow for musicians to give their own contributions to the performance. Dancers will be working with Shami dances, to be adapted and evolved in tangent with the music.” It was an honour to learn Palestinian Dabke, I have often seen it at the protest for a free Palestine and is beautiful to encounter and then learn, #freepalestine 🇵🇸please follow @palestinesolidarityuk for protests and rallies in London
