Spatial Audio Fundamentals Short Course🔊💻🎤🫶🏻 @soundimage_research had a wonderful time delivering another 2 day short course in Spatial Audio Fundamentals. This session was delivered by composers Cameron Naylor, Brona Martin and our spatial audio technician Liam Frizzell. Participants came from many different backgrounds such as theatre, visual anthropology, electronic music production, sound engineering and soundscape composition all eager to learn and develop new skills in Spatial Audio. During these two days participants explored topics such as listening spatially in our Spatial Audio Lab, ambisonic workflows in Reaper, spatial audio recording and hybrid mixing. Participants got hands on experience recording with spatial audio microphones such as the Zoom H3-VR, Rode NT-SF1 and the Eigenmike 64. They then spent time working on their own projects which they presented in our 32.4 Spatial Audio Lab. This is our third time to run this course and further dates are planned for September 26 and January and April 27. Doug gave a talk about his project ‘ENTANGLEMENT’ discussing his process and techniques for higher-order ambisonics composition, production and performance. Coming up on Wednesday 25 February is our next #loudspeakerorchestra concert, Shared Frequencies at the Bathway Theatre in Woolwich. Shared Frequencies opens the doors to our laboratories to showcase a programme of works incubated and developed as part of our Artists-in-Residence programme at the SOUND/IMAGE Research Centre. Engaging with our World Class Labs facilities and expert staff, artists will present new works developed with the SHIFT immersive 360° audiovisual system, highlighting how cutting-edge technology can reshape sound, space and performance in exciting new directions. The evening concludes with a Q&A, offering audiences the chance to hear directly from the artists about their creative processes.
