"At night, when transformations happen. At night, when the body changes…
While we sleep, we are all exposed to changes that hold onto points of control. In the morning, we can wake up in the body of a butterfly or a bird, of a mongoose or an anteater.
No war will end until humans won’t end the war with their own bodies. Archaic forms are the trajectory of the disappearance of the body, gender and its formation in the folding lines of history: i go there through the connection with earth, it is my ritual of submergence clay is mouldable and shapeless — it can take any form clay takes in my fingerprints, leaving a part of my hands on any object this form, which i create through body, a form of a vessel, a form of a new animal, a cast of my transformations, a neutral territory of my continuation; while the clay is wet and soft i can be anything.
As a naive lyrical character of a poem by VVedensky, I want to use pity as an artistic metaphor: to understand that strange feeling which creates the roots of the mythology. I want to be different — and if I fail, to proudly wear the crown of pity, raising it into a multiplicity. This exhibition is my attempt to see which animal I would have been. This is a fragile body of my pity, densely overgrown by flowers, inviting into slumber"
Arseny Ageev is a multidisciplinary artist working with graphics, ceramics, text, and immersive installations. His creative method combines bold abstraction with delicate figurative images, weaving in fairytale narratives and abstract transformations.
