Every time we come back to Ecuador, it feels like the first time. Different season, same magic. ✨ This wasn’t our first visit to the cacao farms… but somehow, every trip hits deeper. Watching the farmers crack open a freshly harvested pod, smelling the warm fermented beans, hearing the stories of families who’ve cared for these trees for generations, it reminds us why we began this journey in the first place. Chocolate isn’t made in factories. It begins here, in the soil, in the hands, in the heart of people who treat cacao like a living legacy. Our bean-to-bag process isn’t just a supply chain. It’s a relationship. A promise. A responsibility. To honor the land. To pay farmers fairly. To create chocolate that’s clean, simple, and intentional, the way nature meant it. Every visit brings us back to this truth: Good chocolate starts with gratitude. From Ecuador to your home: thank you for being part of this journey. 🤎

It’s not glaringly obvious when a food contains toxic metals. You won’t see them, taste them, break a tooth on them, or notice anything off in the moment. They exist at levels that are invisible to the eye, which is exactly why they tend to go overlooked. What surprises people is where they can show up, including in parts of the food supply like chocolate. This isn’t about removing everything from your pantry. It’s about awareness and being more intentional with the food you choose to consume. Starting with labels is a simple first step, especially when you begin to understand what to look for. I had a thoughtful conversation with Alak from @ElementsTruffles about what toxins can sneak inside the food you’re eating. Their approach to chocolate is centered around clear, transparent ingredient labeling, the kind of standard you hope to see across more of the food industry.

When I was in school, on the morning of my Gujarati board exam, I was sitting in the car with my mom, going over possible essay topics. One of the topics we discussed was “Ma.” The whole drive, she kept giving me little proverbs, sayings, thoughts about motherhood… and I was just trying to remember as much as I could so I could write a good essay. An hour later, I opened the paper. The essay topic was “Ma.” At that time, all I remember thinking was, I have so much to write. My mom had just prepared me for this. I felt ready. But now, so many years later, when I think back to the things she said that morning, I understand them so differently. Back then, they were just lines for an essay. Today, they feel like truths I’ve experienced. That’s the thing about mothers. They give you wisdom long before you know what it means. They say things in passing, while driving you to school, while packing your lunch, while doing a hundred other things… and years later, those same words come back to you with a completely different weight. Mothers really are like roots. You don’t always see them in the picture. They’re not always in the spotlight. But they’re the ones holding everything together, feeding you, grounding you, keeping you steady through every season. The flowers get noticed. The roots do the work. And today I’m thinking about my two roots. My mom, who grew me. And my mother-in-law, who made space for me in her heart and in her family when I married Kushal. Neither of you ever ask to be seen. But I see you. So much of who I am is because of both of you. Happy Mother’s Day❤️
