Hey guys! Sorry for the delays with this update but I figured some of you may have been curious about the results of the GoFundMe campaign and the insurance claim debacle from a lil while ago.
I once again cannot give enough thanks to everyone who donated, shared, or even just commented to help with the car theft situation. Seriously, even the advice on new car options really helped me get my head on straight and make decisions on what needed to happen to keep moving forward.
I was in a really bad place afterwards and panicking big time all while doing my best to continue working and posting as usual, despite the fact that i never really got a second to have a proper breakdown/recovery over the loss of my car. Some of the long-term effects of this incident are still hitting and I'm not totally stable at the moment; the lingering fear of further theft or violence has made my partner and I reconsider staying at our current apartment complex (the sudden rent hike is also not helping 😭), the new car payment is double what I expected it would be due to incredibly high APRs at the moment, and the hit to my credit was so much more than I planned and now we worry about qualifying for future investments (ie. moving to a new apartment...).
On the lighter side of things, I really love this ugly blue beetle of a car that I have ended up with. Its not the newest or nicest vehicle out there (definitely not the fastest lol), BUT! It is mine and it will keep me and my lil family fairly safe and comfy and that's what matters the most right now.
I just wanna say another big thank you to everyone who helped and shared and offered kind words when I really needed it. ❤️

As for news about the current state of the car, I was able to go to the impound lot today and take a look at it for the first time and well, it has been totaled completely...
Apparently, the police found the vehicle the next day after we initially reported it stolen, but neglected to inform us for some reason. They initially said I wasn't allowed to retrieve the car due to it still being part of their active investigation, but after a bit of back and forth with the impound and the police department, it turns out that I should have been allowed to retrieve the car on the 1st! The leading officer on the case hadn't finished the paperwork necessary for them to authorize its release and was on vacation for several days, causing the delay. Needless to say, they were very apologetic for the issues and I was allowed to sign the forms necessary to release it to my insurance company.
I am feeling a bit conflicted after seeing it again. On the one hand, I am relieved to have this closure that it has been found and isn't lost forever, but at the same time, seeing it in this state is heartbreaking. I loved this car and it kept me safe for the entirety of my time at college and beyond, so to know that people stole it and took it for a joyride, completely trashed the inside and crashed it, all for perhaps a few views on TikTok or whatever, just... sucks.
Anyway, it's in the insurance company's hands now, I will continue to keep y'all updated as everything progresses. Thank you for reading!
Hey guys, I know i never post here, but I've been dealing with a bit of a nightmare situation lately...
On July 27th, my Kia Soul was stolen from my parking spot in our gated apartment complex.
My partner and I live together and, while i work from home, they cannot drive and so I am the one who takes them to and from work on a daily basis. When I left to get them from their closing shift at 1.45am, I walked out to an empty slot that was covered in broken glass with my car nowhere in sight.
This has been absolutely devastating for me, not only from a financial standpoint, because I was not planning to have to replace the car I had only just paid off a few months prior, but mentally because if someone can steal my car from my designated slot in a gated community with roaming security guards, is anything I own really safe?
Police (as well as my insurance company) are suspecting that the theft was influenced by the recent Kia TikTok Challenge that was going around in which people are taking advantage of Kia and Hyndai made cars that are missing security immobilizers, which means that it only requires a screwdriver and usb port to start and run the car. While this is something I had seen in passing as it went viral, most cases have been occurring on the east coast, so I never imagined someone would want my shitty little sun bleached bucket, but boy, was I wrong.
My friends have suggested that I open up a gofundme as well as accept donations through Ko-fi, so that I won't have to shoulder this burden alone. I'm not one to ever ask for handouts if its avoidable and the guilt i feel is already astronomical, but this was totally unexpected and I know I cannot reasonably afford this on my own.
Everything that is donated will be going towards the pursuit of a new, safer vehicle (definitely NOT a Kia or Hyundai, ever again).
