My name is Queenie and I am an alcoholic and addict. Today I enter into my 8th year in recovery. The anniversary of my last day drinking always comes with a mixed bag of feelings, but as I told a friend earlier today, Iām grateful to be feeling all of them - good or bad. This year, I lost my friend @nitrodapunk to the disease we share, and not a day goes by where Iām not thinking about that goofball. As I sit here writing this post, Iām filled with both grief and gratitude that I managed to find my way out. The last time we saw each other was in 2019 (when this photo was taken) and itās pretty incredible how much my life has changed since. Getting sober ends up being SO much more than quitting drinking and using drugs. It showed me a strength and determination I never knew I had. I stopped being scared to take chances, let me face my fears and put anxiety in its proper place. Iām learning how to heal. I figured out that word āserenityā was a real thing, and that I could find my personal peace through all the exterior chaos this world throws at us. Itās not easy, but I wouldnāt have it any other way. You are not alone. We are all in this together folksā¦ if we organize ourselves and raise our consciousness we can make those brighter tomorrows a reality, because in recovery anything is possible ā¤ļø
