Coolant Manifold Adaptor Project (Post 1/3) SV Sylfia from Expedition Drenched came to us for a quick turnaround project where they needed an adaptor for the ship's Gardener 6LX engine. The ship was stuck in Magnetic Island during cyclone season without a working engine, so the situation was urgent. After removing the head unit for refurbishment, the coolant manifold was damaged and needed to be replaced. The only replacement was located 5 hours drive away in Cairns, QLD, and it had non-matching faces which would require a custom made adaptor. The captain, who rushed to Cairns, sent us the below hand drawing from the new coolant manifold and the crew on SV Slyfia send us measurements taken from the existing coolant system. The next post will be about how and what we designed so that the two mismatched faces can match up seamlessly and get SV Slyfia back in working order. Elchoengineering.com

Coolant Manifold Adaptor Project (Post 2/3) With the measurements completed and send off to us, we were able to design a digital 3D prototype in Fusion 360 for the adaptor coolant system of Expedition Drenched's SV Slyfia's Gardener 6LX Engine. We decided to use 319 alloy aluminum for its anti-corrosion properties and similar metal touching faces, which, would also cause corrosion. The final design and engineering drawings took about 8 hours to complete. The next post will be about actually getting the physical part made at a fabrication shop, fitting the part, and finally getting SV Slyfias engine started and out of the Cyclone Zone!
