A personal favourite. ๐ค Last painting before leaving Edmonton. I loved working on this. Grateful that @brutalistlonghouse was a part of this work.
Brandon. 2021, Oil on Canvas. Forgot to measure, donโt sue me.
This work is supported by the @yegarts โCreators Reserveโ grant.
Pretty special to be able to spend time with friends and family from the Blood reserve and then create work from it.
โUntellingโ is up at the University of Lethbridge art gallery until January 11th. Thank you @ulethartgallery for your support and for the generosity in sharing the collection of Nicholas de Grandmaison. My research for this work started almost 3 years ago when I became interested in de Grandmaisonโs portraits of Blackfoot people.
This work is a declaration of existence and an expression of love to my Niitsitapi friends and family who live with humour, strength and refuse to settle within imposed boundaries. ๐ซถ๐ผ๐ฉถ
Love the little journey to Toronto this painting took me on! Grateful to have been a finalist in the @kingstonprize with 29 other incredible artists and ultra-grateful to @sydney.f.pascal who allowed me to paint her!
My portraiture practice has been a way to combat the idea of โTerra nulliusโ or โnobodyโs landโ and to show the presence of Indigenous people. Highlighting the everyday and relishing in the ordinariness of being is a small way to demonstrate our ongoing presence and multiplicities. Recently Iโve been enjoying a practice of gifting flowers to sitters and thinking of all the flowers in art history that get to live on through paintings - it reminds me that we are infinite.

Always looking back to the very special road trip across southern Alberta that inspired this work. Thank you forever @fheavyshield for your mentorship and endless love to the road trip crew.
@hearty84 did such an amazing job fabricating the recreated signs that we saw along the way. Brandon Wynnychuk helped me create the visitors guide that brings the work together.
