Dearest supporters, we write to you from the land of the Arrernte people, across the estates of Mparntwe, Antulye and Irlpme; also known as Alice Springs.
After a somewhat brutal move back to a summer with a record number of over 40° days and non-functional air-con, which was followed by ten days of gentle rain we’re now in the 6 month season of paradise (come visit!). We feel like we’ve been welcomed back to the central desert region after a glorious creative and family-filled 2024 in Canberra.
Having a year long break to place, routine and local politics brought a welcome reprieve to ‘life decisions’ and ‘big issues’. Imagine going from an NT Government which has been failing it’s constituents over decades (it’s a complex job) to the other territory where local Labour have brought in so many sensible policies to do with climate, all-abilities access and some of the smoothest footpaths we’ve had the pleasure to ride on. The first few weeks of being there felt like we were living in a “d”, “a”, “i”, “y”, “e” spa. Reflecting on this time; spent with family, meeting new people, reconnecting with longer-term friends, opportunities to exhibit, make new work, and set-up two very excellent studios at
@anca_inc and
@dairy_road , as well as all the treats living in a mini-metropolis brings = it was a good year. And now, we’re back. In this dusty, complex, very remote, gritty, tiny town.
