10 years ago I was in Pakistan with
@grupofantasma , it was 3am and my phone started blowing up. I ignored it, trying to sleep, till I started to wonder if it was an emergency. Turned out Prince had passed and friends were reaching out to share the news, in shock. Upon returning home,
@nakia put together an all star show with GF as the backing band, to celebrate the man and his legacy “too many hits, too little time.”
10 years later, Nakia reached out again to celebrate the man and the music one more time. We jumped at the opportunity.
I was incredibly fortunate to have spent 3 years working with Prince with Grupo Fantasma from 06-09. From private parties to arenas, we opened shows, backed him up and jammed late into the night. He praised us for making “real music by real musicians.” He taught us so much, gave us validation at an early and important stage in our career and allowed us to grow into what we did at our height. Those moments remain some of the true heights of my musical career and of my life, frankly.
I’ll never forget the funkiness and the showmanship. I’m humbled to be able to play this music in his honor with this amazing cast of old and new friends, and undeniable talent. Long live P and his music!
See you tonight
@antonesnightclub if you got tix, I hear it’s sold out. 💜
