Shakin the rust off with some free-stylin today. Tracked everything utilizing a few mics. All recorded through some external mic pres, compressors, stomp pedals and direct to tape into the Tascam 388. Bounced it to Pro Tools. No processing done ITB. RAW
“ELEPHANT TALK” by @kingcrimsonhq is the latest of my drum covers! I was lucky enough to watch them live a year ago and seen @dannycarey_tool play the heck out of this great song. I kept this one pretty true to the original. Added some random snippets from my iPhone just for fun! 🤪
As far as audio still keeping it simple with the 1 mic approach going through some outboard gear and into pro tools. Same as last video if you want the full details on that! 🤙🏽
Every year at @thenammshow@elastro23 , @tchad_blake and I take a group selfie. This year Tchad was not in attendance so we had to improvise! Thanks to @theaudiopunks for helping us fake it this year. Missed you Tchad, see you next year.
Here it is! So I set a goal this year of posting at least 1 video a week. Whether it’s me drumming to a favorite song of mine or maybe some things I do in my studio. Whatever it is I just want it to be fun, silly, interesting, and even maybe educational at times. I hope you enjoy this one. It’s my favorite John Lennon song off his Imagine album and it’s called “How do you Sleep?” Drums are played by an all time great session player Jim Keltner.
Btw I know some people asked about my signal chain when I recorded my drums on my last video so here it is:
-Altec 639b>Chandler TG Cassette>Spectra 1964 C 610. Light compression on the TG barely moving the needle. And just peak limiting on the 610. All direct into pro tools.

First reel of the year! Getting back to grooving on the kit again after many years of being primarily a studio cat. In this session I covered “Tortuga” by Caifanes on the drums. @alfonsoandre has been one of my biggest musical influences growing up. A true master and innovator on the drums. Legend!
