Two sets of handformed toes that I decided were a little too on the nose.
Missing a 2nd toe (whereabouts unknown) and a little toe (painted gold and used in the work 'Skin Crawl', 2018).

This is a cast of the space inside a box shaped like a liver, atop the wood cut away to create the interior of said box, cushioned by slices of packaging and failed experiments. In 2020 I practiced working with the bandsaw, cutting curvilinear boxes in the shape of body organs from solid blocks of wood. At the time I'd also just started a project of drawing and describing each thing in my studio, which took 3 years to complete. During that time I stopped purchasing new materials and throwing things out. I had many intentions at many different times for the red and pink cast, and the liver shaped piece of wood. Eventually I joined them. My plan was to take this further but then I decided it's already there.
This gives me the fear. Space for 400 people to sit down together-apart and regurgitate information they (may or) may not understand the practical application of. (Kelvinhall, set up for exams)

Sometimes I follow my nose in the studio, moving quickly from one thing to the next, trying a what-if, following inklings, improvising when things don't happen how I thought they would (which is almost always), adapting ideas that turn out not to hold. I think of this as a kind of internal big data analysis. Sometimes the experiments get cast aside but held onto because they might contain possibilities that I can't yet fathom.
