Last year, my wonderful friends
@oliviapwilkes and
@rohinacp created
@sensorial.collective . Their first night was a joyous explosion on the dance floor… a celebration of queer joy, resistance and community.
We made a film to screen on the night that spoke to the heart of Sensorial: partying is political, dancing is defiance. Alongside the powerful words by
@lukeydannytomtom , I wove together archive from queer history - protests, celebrations, and communities from around the globe - to remind us that without the bravery and fight of those before us, the spaces we now hold so closely simply wouldn’t exist.
Watching a room full of dancing queers fall silent to watch the film was overwhelming, tears in eyes, arms around friends and chosen family. A girl in the loo saying, “that film made me want to be a better queer.”
It’s a film I’ll always be proud of, and I’ll be endlessly proud of Liv & Roh for orchestrating such a magnificent and special event.
This is a snippet from the screening on the night, the reel I made afterwards, and some shots from filming and the night itself.
Can’t wait for the next one…. 🫶
