To kick things off, we sat down with Ila Paterson, the powerhouse behind Ekaya Productions, for a quick-fire Q&A: ✨ What inspired you to bring Ekaya Productions to life? I’ll be honest, I was a little reluctant to start my own company. But after years of working in the industry, I felt a strong pull to create a space that truly felt like “home” for creative collaboration. That’s how Ekaya Productions was born, 15 years ago, out of a desire to build a company where a warm, welcoming environment is at the heart of everything we do. ✨ Tell us about the meaning of “Ekaya” and the significance it has. Our name, Ekaya, means “home” in Xhosa, reflecting our commitment to creating a welcoming and nurturing environment for our clients and collaborators. ✨ Why is Cape Town the perfect all-rounder location? Cape Town is logistically a dream. Within a short drive, we can find a huge variety of locations—from German-looking gardens or North European homes to exotic beach settings. It’s truly an all-rounder location, offering almost everything except for glaciers. ✨ What’s a daily non-negotiable in your life? A daily workout is a non-negotiable for me on days without crazy call times. On those long shoot days, my must-have is a good laugh with the crew—it’s essential for keeping our energy high and our spirits bright.
