Our 6 year-old Tala officially became the first triathlete in the family! 😊 She did the whole triathlon with no assistance, including the transitions, and still finished 6th! #SwimBikeRun
Last time I saw my 9th grader Manu play basketball was at the high school state tournament in March, so it was nice to watch her get some games in this past weekend. Big thanks to Minto and AK Native Elite for adding her to their team! 🏀 #KeepGettingBetter
Good to see my 16 yr-old Laka get some games in against solid competition at the Golden Heart Classic basketball tournament in Fairbanks this past weekend. His team won the championship of the High School Elite division. Big thanks to coach Landon and his Wildcats for inviting him to run with them. 🙏🏽
I don’t really do this anymore, but when it’s young people doing important work for the community who are asking, it’s hard to say no.😊 Glad to be the keynote speaker for the 5th Annual Filipinx Student Wellbeing Conference this coming Saturday hosted by San Francisco State University. 👊🏽 See you all soon.
Congratulations to the Service Cougars Girls Basketball team for reaching the Final Four of the Alaska 4A Basketball State Tournament. This is the best finish and best season record for Service High School girls basketball in 21 years! Big thanks to the coaches for reviving the program and building a culture with high standards, and to the players for literally putting their blood, sweat, tears, and hearts into the game. Wishing you all a healthy and productive off-season. #JobNotDone
So proud of my 16 year-old Laka for showing out at the Manila Live/NBTC tournament in the Philippines. He was a solid contributor to his team that went 6-3 and competed well against top-level competition in a division of 44 teams. More importantly, he developed strong friendships and bonds with his teammates, making unforgettable memories on and off the court. This trip is definitely a core memory for him - basketball, culture, worldview, perspective, life. I’m so happy for this dude.
My 13 year-old Kalu playing in the 14/15U Division of the Manila Live/NBTC tournament in the Philippines. He’s being exposed to a different style and higher level of physicality basketball-wise, and to a different culture and worldview life-wise. 😊 Grateful for the opportunity. 🇵🇭🏀#KeepGettingBetter
Manu just ended her freshman year of high school basketball a few days ago, with her Service Cougars team making it to the Final Four of the 4A State Tournament. They lost to a tough Bartlett team in the semifinals - it was a 1-point game with less than a minute to go - and it was heartbreaking to witness Manu shed tears as she walked off the court. She learned plenty and grew so much as a basketball player and as a person. There were definitely a lot of life lessons this season. She’ll be back. #KeepGettingBetter
Haha, my freshman Manu didn’t know what to do when she was named “Player of the Game” for the state tournament 3rd place game yesterday. She’s never really paid attention to individual awards or recognitions, and it showed here. When her name was announced, she was looking at her teammates and seemed to want to go to her teammates or have everybody go with her. And when posing for the photo, she didn’t know to open and display the award. This kid is funny. 😊
My freshman Manu played in her first State Basketball Tournament game yesterday and helped her 6th seeded Service Cougars team beat 3rd seed Wasilla to advance to the Final Four of the 4A Girls Division! Awesome team effort! Manu went 6-10 on field goals and finished with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals. 😊 #KeepGettingBetter #MarchMadnessAlaska
Some clips of Manu during the Cook Inlet Conference tournament. Lost the championship to a tough Bartlett team, but still qualified for the State Tournament. Season is not over. Job not done. 🏀 #KeepGettingBetter #FreshmenSeason
