PAPER MONSTERS Movie poster Timelapse
Dir. Kait Sookdeo (2026)
Little insight into what my mind looks like when Iām painting. Director Kait and I spoke at length about what the subject and feeling should be.
This piece is special because it hits that sweet spot of collaborating with the director to sculpt a painting that fits the mood and soul of their film, but Kait also let me loose and gave me a lot of room play around and go nuts once she was certain I understood the direction of her film.
On a personal note this piece is special because it broke a couple months of art block. I got to go in and go nuts with color, simultaneously warm and cold and dark and bright.
Do excuse the shit quality of the video, my focus was on doing the best painting I could, rather than making sure the āØcontent⨠for social media was in 4k š¤·āāļø
Filmmakers and musicians, I got you if you need an album cover or movie poster. Iām in the zone!

This was a blast and a challenge. Director Kait and I started talking about concepts and themes while the film was still in the scripting process.
We spoke about the tone and our mutual love of comics and old movie posters, and how those should be a factor without losing the modern horror elements.
Once filming began in Florida she would send me videos and photos of the set and props and actors in costume.
We finally decided on the direction once they were on set and I got to work. Digital oil is a bit tricky. Definitely simpler but it doesnāt have the character of imperfections that would come with real brush strokes on heavy canvas. But I was up to the challenge.
I genuinely had a blast working and reworking this piece and director Kait was a wonderfully collaborative creative partner, letting me explore what I thought felt right for the piece.
The short is currently in its festival run so keep and eye out.
Always a pleasure working with the Indie Valley team.
Iāve kinda been laser focused on film and video, and I didnāt event realise that I hadnāt done photography in nearly a year, so I was super happy to get the call to come down.
An amazing night of not-surprisingly fantastic performances by the usual suspects, catching up with old friends and making new ones.
This was the cognitive reset I didnāt know I needed after the breakneck Carnival season.
Forever respecting these guys for making alternative music and culture a priority and creating a little sanctuary for those of us who need it. ā¤ļø

My first artwork of 2026.
This was originally a sketch / doodle for funsies in between working on larger paintings for movie posters and video projects and someone itās the one I finished first.
For the first time since probably 2019 I didnāt go into this with a plan. I just put my hand in the canvas and let my intuition guide me. I knew I would go through a bunch of drafts that didnāt feel right but I also knew that the piece would reveal itself to me when it was ready to. And so it happened. She came to me. I always knew she would have big thick volumous platinum blonde hair blown out by the light though. At one point she was the bride of Frankenstein, then the bridge from the 2026 film with Jesse Buckley, then some weird combination of both, and then back to her.
I worked on this for most of Christmas break through a ball of anxiety, I hadnāt finished a piece in a year. After coming out of art block two years ago Iād started over a dozens new paintings and posters and ideas and not finished them. At this point I was averaging one movie poster a year for a client. But I had to sit down and do the work. I needed to put in the hours. So much of my soul is in this piece.
I needed to finish something small before I could go back to the big pieces, and she came to me when I needed her, she made me believe in my art again, she made me believe in myself again.
Thank you for caring ā¤ļø

SYNOPSIS:
After the death of her matriarchal grandmother, Amelia finds herself unravelling. Burdened by strained relationships and mounting responsibilities, she makes a desperate attempt to regain control. But someoneāor somethingāis watching. As eerie events unfold in haunting black and white, Amelia is drawn into a chilling legacy of unspoken truths and otherworldly forces in this unearthed tale of terror.
DIRECTORāS STATEMENT:
There is enchantment woven into the DNA of old cinema. My fascination lies within the forgotten reels that slipped quietly beneath the spotlight in the early twentieth century. These so-called B-movies, dismissed as ālesser thanā in their day are to me just as richly artistic as their celebrated counterparts. Perhaps even more so as they could only be sculpted by filmmakers who wagered their livelihoods and sanities to create and compete with studio-funded films at a time when celluloid cost as much as a limb, and cameras and editing software werenāt yet available at the touch of a button.
This is the spirit of Welcome Home - very much fanatical devotion to the cult of celluloid in more ways than one. While shooting on celluloid with a fully funded cast and crew was beyond reach in my student years, black and white film emulation, harsh expressionistic lighting, disjointed audio and the whir of imaginary projectors allowed me to capture on the screen the warm and personality of an early twentieth century occult bloodbath on an unearthed print.
