Look. I’ve never really gotten into MMA and fighting sports, but I may or may not have subscribed to a month of Netflix just to be able to watch the @ginajcarano v. @rondarousey matchup live tonight 💃🏻 And in honor of this fight, I had to spruce up the Payvan v. Soto mock promo poster I made last fall and share it again. I’ve always HATED writing fight scenes, but the fight sequence between Ziva and Kimbra at the end of Embers was actually a ton of fun to create. I 100% had my Word doc open on one screen and John Wick scenes playing on the other screen for inspiration. When I was first drafting the book, all the scenes just had nicknames rather than chapter numbers; the previous scene was dubbed “Nothing Personal,” and then the fight sequence between them became “Okay It’s Actually Pretty Personal” 😂. I loved the stakes and sense of closure it created for Ziva. But beware of getting on her bad side—she might still want to cut you up into little pieces. Due to Ziva’s lone-wolf nature, Zinni has formed a particularly close partnership with Skeet over the years; the two of them complement each other and bring some much-needed balance to the team. While we’re still somewhat in the spirit of Star Wars Day, I have to brag on @carlylandryxo . There’s a scene in Nexus where Ziva & Co. are eating in the cafeteria aboard a big public transport, and a serving bot tends to them. You know the part in Attack of the Clones where Obi-Wan goes to see Dex at his diner to ask about Jango Fett’s toxic dart, and there’s that waitress droid that goes, 🗣️ “You want a cup of Jawa juice??” I’d always imagined my serving bot as basically being that droid. But when it came time to record the Nexus audio, I completely forgot to give Carly any instruction on that scene, and what you hear in this clip is what she came up with herself. I kid you not, I screamed when I first heard it. It’s not *exactly* like the SW version, but it’s 100% perfect for my story and setting. #starwars #audiobooks #scifi #bookish #bookstagram

Meet ✨SKEET DUVO✨, Ziva’s second in command. His role within the spec ops division requires him to maintain a certain measure of detachment and professionalism, but he tends to have a more laid-back demeanor than the rest of the team, even lending a sense of humor in certain circumstances. He’s a brawler, the muscle at the forefront of any combat situation, and in many ways, his more agreeable personality might even make him a better leader than Ziva. The way events in the series force him to adapt makes his character arc one of my favorites.
