EHKÄ-PRODUCTION for new dance and performance ⭐ since 2004
Ehkä-production is a unique community, a hub of activity, and an employer formed by the long-term creative work of independent artists. Since its establishment in 2004, Ehkä has promoted non-commercial, singular and experimental art through the co-production of works in new dance and performance fields. The community also supports projects in children’s culture, sound art, music, fine art and performance art.
The artist-run Ehkä curates and manages the Contemporary Art Space Kutomo in Turku, an interdisciplinary art venue and year-round residency established in 2009. Ehkä provides work opportunities for more than a hundred artists each year.
Dance artist Anna Torkkel founded Ehkä-production as a frame for her own artworks together with performance artist Tashi Iwaoka in Amsterdam in 2004. The dedicated work of Ehkä members Anna Torkkel and Maija Reeta Raumanni has supported and nurtured the community's development for over 20 years.
✨
Ehkä’s personnel have three part-time employees working year-round for the community. Artistic director Anna Torkkel is in charge of the program planning and development of artistic activities, Maija Reeta Raumanni acts as a financial manager and is responsible for the facilities, and Fatima Amokrane works as the producer for publicity, coordination and communication.
In addition to the office staff, Ehkä has other employees involved in productions. Dramaturg Even Minn serves as Ehkä’s house dramaturg, and journalist Heidi Horila contributes as an audience engagement person and writer. Visual artist Hertta Kiiski is responsible for photography and graphic design, and lighting designer Irene Lehtonen is the technical manager at Contemporary Art Space Kutomo. The newest addition to the team is fine art student Elli Syrjänen, who produces video and photographic content.
✨
Ehkä-production is funded by specially targeted subsidies for communities, grants from foundations, cooperative funding, and the community’s own money, which is collected from ticket sales, teaching, rental, and membership fees.

SPRING ROLL 2026: NIKO HALLIKAINEN: PRIMA MATERIA
Only show today!
Performance at Contemporary Art Space Kutomo as part of the Spring Roll 2026 festival
Sat 16.5.2026 at 19
Tickets: 25/15 €, from Ehkä’s Holvi-shop
This is sort of a magic show – a tender look into a powerful undercurrent that operates reality from behind. It asks of us: when’s the last time you were overwhelmed by two big ideas at once?
Prima Materia is a mystical book written to be performed by a bard. The bard travels around the world, citing otherworldly messages that were channeled through the bard’s voice, a caved throat transformed into a shifty horn.
Purple curtains, hung by organized crime, move in the warming winds, backlit by moonlighting.

SPRING ROLL 2026: TITANIK GALLERY: PATRICIA CAROLINA: PÚA AND LUIS FERNANDO AMAYA: CORRE EL AGUA Y NO SE VE
The event today!
Event at Titanik Gallery as part of the Spring Roll 2026 festival program
Sat 16.5. at 16–17
Free entry!
For the Spring Roll 2026, Titanik Gallery hosts a conversation and concert around Patricia Carolina’s exhibition: Púa.
The event starts with a conversation with Patricia Carolina, where we take a deeper look into the exhibition’s world. Púa explores family bonds, industrial histories, and displacement crossed by the loss of a river.
After the conversation, we hear a concert arranged and performed by Luis Fernando Amaya, corre el agua y no se ve [water runs and cannot be seen], that offers glimpses into the intricate relationships between different voices—human and nonhuman—in a changing landscape. The performance mediates themes from the exhibition, blending storytelling, traditional music, and experimental live electronics. The concert departs from the methods in Canto Cardenche, an a cappella singing tradition from the mining region of La Laguna in northern México. The genre takes its name from the cardenche cactus, whose spines cause pain when they pierce the skin—but hurt even more when they are removed.

Bliss is a performance in which dance, music, material, and light merge into one. In Bliss, dancing to music and the dialogue between different elements proposed by Anna Torkkel’s practice evolve into group choreography.
Torkkel’s choreographic practice draws from focusing on the present moment and from dancing to music. She has developed a practice that enables and supports the dancer to surrender to the music and disregard evaluating themselves and the movement that emerges. In her practice, dance does not arise from the dancer’s subjective choices, reasoning, or pursuit of excellence, but rather through remaining sensitive and letting go. In the process of Bliss, the practice expands to include working with touch and voice. Bliss focuses on recalling life’s wonder.

Bliss anchors itself in existence in its multiplicity and illuminations from dawn to nightfall. It focuses on recalling life’s wonder. The performance highlights the playful essence of dance and its fearless, illogical nature, allowing it to shimmer. In it, dance is a pathway to a profoundly experienced being and its enchantment. The piece weaves together birth, growth, transitions, and fading, bringing forth both dance’s capacity to express continuous change and the dancer’s skill in navigating between these states.

Treenitila begins with an opening circle where participants can express their individual needs or wishes regarding movement. The dancing is divided into two parts: the first half is guided by a facilitator, and the second half moves into free improvisation. At the end of the session, there is an opportunity to gather together or stay for a cool-down or stretch.
Communication happens both in Finnish and English.
After the Spring Roll festival, Treenitila will be held once more at the Contemporary Art Space Kutomo during the spring season: Thursday, 28.5. at 18:30–20. Entry to Treenitila is always free!

SPRING ROLL 2026: PULLA COLLECTIVE: HIP-HOP SESSIONS
Free class today!
Hip-hop sessions at Contemporary Art Space Kutomo as part of the Spring Roll 2026 festival program
Thu 14.5. at 17–18:30
Free entry!
Pulla Collective’s Evgeny “Evi” Kostyukov, Noora Luukko, and Robert Stowe’s weekly Hip-hop sessions welcome everyone interested in street dance, at all skill levels, to train together. The sessions serve as a space for self-directed group training, and beginners are warmly welcome.
There is no formal teaching; instead, the focus is on developing one’s own street dance-based improvisation. However, the members of the Pulla Collective who are present are happy to offer tips and advice regarding the training. At the sessions, the street dance culture locally and as a part of the larger hip-hop culture around the globe is shared and maintained together.
Communication happens both in Finnish and English. Please, wear indoor shoes with light-colored soles that do not leave marks on the wooden floor.
After the Spring Roll festival, the weekly Hip-hop sessions will be held twice more at the Contemporary Art Space Kutomo during the spring season: Thursdays, 21.5. and 28.5. at 17-18:30. Entry to the Hip-hop sessions is always free!

Heidi and Even discuss the relationship between dance and the audience, and the experience of being immersed in the performance. Is it acceptable for the performing arts—and for art in general—to display and express emotions? The discussion is inspired by the work Bliss by Anna Torkkel and the working group.
In Ehkä-puhetta (Ehkä-talk) podcast, Ehkä-production's audience engagement person and writer Heidi Horila and house dramaturg Even Minn discuss dance, performances, and current themes inspired by them. During the year 2026, there will be four podcast episodes, and the episodes will be released around Ehkä’s premieres and festivals throughout the year.
