"The main purpose of the E-GIS & Urban Development Office is to provide comprehensive spatial data that can be utilized for effective planning in Lagos State. By integrating geospatial information with other relevant data sets, such as demographic statistics or environmental data, the office enables more informed decision-making processes for the state.
Furthermore, the E-GIS & Urban Development Office plays a vital role in budgeting by providing valuable insights into spatial patterns and trends, while also enabling monitoring and change detection. This helps stakeholders within the state allocate resources efficiently and prioritize projects based on their geographic significance. Through satellite imagery or aerial photography integrated into the E-GIS system, organizations can track changes in their geographic areas of interest over time. This capability proves valuable for detecting illegal construction activities or unauthorized changes in land use.
"
The E-GIS & Urban Development Office, (Enterprise Geographic Information System), is a specialized department dedicated to the generation of high-quality geospatial information. Its primary objective is to support and enhance various aspects of planning, budgeting, and physical infrastructure development.
One key advantage of the eGIS & Urban Development Office is its ability to centralize geographic data into a single system. This consolidation facilitates easier access to information and enhances better decision-making based on accurate and up-to-date spatial data. By providing a comprehensive view of various aspects related to land management, eGIS enhances planning capabilities and supports effective resource allocation.
By leveraging advanced technologies and data analysis techniques, the E-GIS Office ensures a continuous supply of accurate and reliable geospatial information in Lagos State. This information serves as a crucial resource for decision-makers in both the public and private sectors.

“Leadership is measured by what remains after you leave”
This guided our BrownBag Series with Dr. Olajide Babatunde, Special Adviser on Enterprise Geographic Information Systems and Urban Development, as he shared insights on leadership and civic responsibility with our Fellows.
He emphasised that leadership is not a future title but a responsibility to be exercised today. Young people, he noted, are already shaping decisions and influencing progress, and their actions have real impact on the communities around them.
The session was honoured by BLDR. Florence Omolola Gbaye, General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, and Oluwasegun Williams, Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Urban Development.
The conversation left our Fellows with a renewed focus on creating systems, setting standards, and delivering impact that endures.

“MAKOKO DEMOLITION IS FOR SAFETY OF CITIZENS” - LASG
The Lagos State Government has stated that the ongoing demolition and structural removal in the fishing community of Makoko is aimed at ensuring the safety of the citizens living there, rather than perpetuating the erroneous belief that it is for land grabbing by the government.
This was disclosed by the Special Adviser on Urban Development and E-GIS to the Governor, Dr. Olajide Babatunde, while addressing the Press today at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa-Ikeja.
He said the structures that have been removed are those under the high-tension electricity poles, which pose a high risk to human existence, and this is not restricted to Makoko only.
He further said that the regeneration of the other part of the community where people are living would be carried out in phases while human convenience would be considered in the development of the area, adding that the removal of structures under the high tension poles in the state is ongoing and will not be stopped citing health and other hazardous effects.
Olajide added that regeneration of the urban areas in the state is not limited to Makoko and Oworonshoki. He cited other previous and ongoing areas to include Pelewura, Kantangowa, and Oko-baba, among others.
“The removal of such structures did not start from this administration. It has been ongoing, and we will continue to ensure that sanity prevails in our environment so that Lagos can be the best city we all crave to live in,” he concluded.

The Long-Awaited EPPS Platform Is Live!
Yesterday, Lagos witnessed another major breakthrough in physical planning and urban development with the official launch of the Electronic Physical Planning Process System (EPPS) a platform that finally brings land administration and physical planning fully into the digital age.
As our city continues to grow, traditional processes can no longer keep up. The EPPS introduces a faster, clearer, and more transparent application workflow, reducing human interference while providing accurate data to support a safer and better-organised Lagos.
This innovation is a direct reflection of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to technological advancement under the THEMES+ Agenda, and the relentless efforts of the Special Adviser to the Governor on eGIS & Urban Development, Dr. Olajide Abiodun Babatunde, whose leadership made this milestone possible.
To support this transition, planning officers across the state have been equipped with upgraded digital tools, ensuring smooth adoption and improved service delivery.
We encourage developers, professionals, and residents to fully leverage this platform as we move towards a Lagos that works better, smarter, and more efficiently for all.
EPPS is not just a system it is the future of planning in Lagos.
