Throughout the record runs a unifying thread of grievance—wrongful death, resentment, injustice, and unfinished sorrow—turning each song into an elegy born from the island’s haunted memory. By tightly weaving pentatonic melodies, gong, traditional instrumental colors, and Taiwanese folklore into black metal, Efflore delivers a record that is both ferocious and deeply rooted in culture. From grief-stricken howls and violent surges to slow, icy narration and shifting uncanny atmospheres, the album moves through a wide emotional and sonic spectrum. Its varied arrangements reflect the layered plurality of Taiwanese folk religion, inviting listeners into a world where black metal and Taiwan’s supernatural imagination become one.
