As I write this, I am still in denial.
For 15 years, we have been family. I remember when you called me in 2011 to come and minister at your church for the Carol service. After that service, you shared your desire to be a part of my team, and the rest is history.
Ayo, because of your commitment, in such a short time, you became the band leader. Over the years, you coordinated band members, showed unwavering support, and brought so many creative ideas, musicians, and singers into the team. We traveled the world doing ministry. You didn’t just become a part of the ministry, you took it as your own.
The minstrel on drums, as I fondly called you… your ability to interpret sound, to connect, and to flow with me made ministry easy.
Ayo, you were not just my drummer, you were my brother, my family. During one of the most difficult seasons of my life, you welcomed me into your home. Your parents embraced me without judging me and adopted me as their own. Because of you, I gained a mother and father, siblings, and my daughter gained grandparents.
Remember how Daddy and Mommy would always say I am the third born and you are the fourth? The love your family has shown me is truly a gift from God.
Ayo, should I even begin to talk about the comedian that you were? Or what happens when you walk into a room? There was never a dull moment with you. You had a way of lighting up every space. Your jokes had everyone rolling with laughter. Your kindness and encouragement lifted people and pushed them to be better. Ayo, you were humble to a fault.
And your style? Unmatched. I can just see you looking at yourself, as you always do, smiling, and saying, “Mama, don’t I represent you well?”
My darling brother, I just want to say thank you for the past 15 years. I Thank God for your life. Thank you for the impact you made in my life, in my ministry, and in the lives of so many. You served God with your whole heart.
Now you are with THE ONE you worshipped.
