Main circuit board complex of an iris scanner for @businessweek
Co-founded by Sam Altman of @openai , @world network (formerly Worldcoin) aims to create a biometrics database for (ideally) everyone alive. Their (ingenious? spooky?) orbs are able to capture a high res scan of your iris within seconds and generate a unique “verified human” ID, designed as an online proof-of-humanity system in the coming age of “artificial general intelligence”, as Altman calls it. I visited their labs and manufacturing in Nürnberg and Jena, which is still a world leader in optics and photonics thanks to good old Carl Zeiss (photo pals will get it).
If you’re curious about it, check out the episode on @bloomberg “Hello World” and/or the comprehensive article out on @time this week.
