Material: Face Masks
2021
Trace is a garment constructed from fabric assembled entirely out of disposable face masks. Across its surface, handwritten texts record fragments of personal narratives deleted from Chinese social media during the COVID-19 pandemic under systems of censorship.
During the photoshoot, I incorporated a protective face shield into the styling and inscribed the line from Interstellar: “Do not go gentle into that good night.”
For this work, I wrote:
“If you are a fish swimming against the current, then let the tide become our voice.”
Through fragile materials, erased language, and bodily protection, Trace reflects on memory, suppression, and the persistence of individual expression in moments of collective crisis.

Public Program for DANCE 2022-2025
The answers from the audience were similar to the messages left by tourists after visiting a scenic spot, with quite a number of them serving as “wishes.” Some of the messages also expressed the audience‘s well-wishes for the artist. Besides these, most of the answers contained an abstract reflection on the present and an anticipation for the future. They conveyed a range of emotions towards the real world, including dissatisfaction, anger, joy, and hope.
