The race ended, but my heart is still racing.
I crossed the finish line of my Hyrox on friday, but this time it didn’t feel like victory, it felt like… survival…
We were flying — smooth, strong, locked in — well on pace to smash our own record. Every station ticked by with that beautiful rhythm we’d trained so hard for. Then, during the 6th run, my left calf started twitching. I prayed desperately, “No no please… not now. Only two more stations. Stay with me.”
After finishing the Farmer’s Carry, the spasm turned into a brutal, locking cramp. By the time i arrived at the 7th station - Sandbag Lunges, I had burned through all my electrolytes and my left leg completely gave out. I grabbed James’s arm and screamed - a raw, ugly sound i didn’t even recognize as mine. In the final 100 meters before Wall Balls, both legs collapsed. I crumbled to the floor, screaming in excruciating pain as paramedics rushed in and sprayed vapocoolant on my seized muscles.
Waves of disappointment, frustration, and terror crashed over me. Because of me, we didn’t just miss our record — we posted our worst time yet. My ego took a beating i wasn’t prepared for..
But
@james.h.chu never wavered. You became my strength when mine disappeared. You braced me, held me up, and literally carried me through that last brutal mile.. “One step at a time, I will walk with you,” you said. Thank you for believing in me even when i couldn’t believe in myself. Thank you for turning our race into a story of true partnership.
This mishap taught me more than any podium ever could: about how fragile the body is, the depth of real teamwork, and how loud my ego can get when things don’t go according to plan.
I’m disappointed in the result, but I’m not broken. I’m rebuilt.
James, this is my promise to you — I will come back stronger, faster, and more prepared! We’re not done writing this story.
To Amy and Candice, our incredible cheer squad who traveled all this way, and to those of you who came out to support us — thank you. Your energy kept us going when our legs wouldn’t.
See you at the next Hyrox.
This time, we’ll be ready.
