The Center for Innovation in the Arts concluded a year of telematic performances with Bridging the Time Space Divide, a multimedia collaboration between the Accademia Stauffer in Cremona, Italy and the Juilliard School in New York. The project was developed in partnership with the Historic Performance Department at Juilliard and the Quartetto Goldberg in Milan. The musicians performed on both Baroque instruments and with interactive, music and dance technology. The program featured original compositions by Juilliard faculty, students and alumni. Scenic designs for the program were created by Camilla Tassi. Interactive dance-video performed by Kaylin Maggard. The program was directed by Edward Bilous, Director of the Center for Innovation in the Arts. On February 6th the Center for Innovation in the Arts at Juilliard, Edward Bilous Director, will present a multimedia adaptation of Terry Riley’s iconic minimalist masterpiece In C. The production will feature musicians in New York playing live, in real-time, with a chamber orchestra in Tianjin, China. An innovative technology system designed by William Fastenow and Nathan Prillaman, the Center’s technology team leaders, will link and synchronize the combined 42-member electro-acoustic ensemble. The multimedia production will also feature interactive dance-video choreographed and performed by Juilliard dancers Jade Diouf, Flora Ferguson, Connor Freeman, Matthew Johnson and Shoshana Sklar. Lindan Burns, violist and video performing artist (VPA), will process the videos in real time using interactive haptic technology. The part of a VPA is a unique addition to the ensemble in that she must use both musical and kinesthetic sensibilities and have a knowledge of interactive technology to sculpt the video experience. The performance is part of the New Series directed by Juilliard’s Dean of Music, David Serkin Ludwig. It will take place in Juilliard’s Sharp Theater at 8:00. A pre-concert discussion and technology presentation will precede the event at 7:00.
