I can’t believe how electric and joyous the atmosphere was at last month’s and wish I’d recorded more clips to share but was simply lost in the fun and excitement of it all. If you’re joining us, see you a week on Friday!
Big thanks to all those who came to bathe in the sounds of THE RADIOHEAD MIXTAPE yesterday afternoon.
It was another beautiful chance to sit together, listen, think about our lives and daydream, and we made the murky space underneath the viaduct resonate with music, spirit and soul.
For those two hours, everything was in its right place.
Thanks also to the trains for joining in, right on time.
If you couldn’t be there, or are keen to listen again, here’s a recording for you all;

I love doing the Mixtape series as it’s a chance to dive as deep as I can into the whole back catalogue of an artist or band that I really love and it reminds me how the music of Radiohead has meant a lot to me for such a long time.
The mix will by no means be definitive and cannot possibly feature all their songs or even all the songs I want it to, as there’s only so much time, but it’s such a pleasure finding tracks that feel right in a sequence.
This one in particular has felt like creating a path through a dense forest, along which we stumble across odd scenes and ruins, waterways and wells, beautiful clearings and sudden clifftops.
I’ve so enjoyed putting it all together that I can’t wait to see what you make of it all.

Don’t forget to get there nice and early so as to get comfy and settle in before it starts at 3.30pm, to bring a cushion or a chair and bring anything you’d like to sip or nibble on.
We’ll be in a fairly public place so if passers-by are interested or show signs of confusion, as in life, be warm and forgiving, and leave no mess.

Ice cream van was there last Sunday evening but best to assume it won’t be there this week, to avoid disappointment and/or to be pleasantly surprised if it is.
THE RADIOHEAD MIXTAPE
Quite a quick turnaround for this mix on Sunday the 12th of October as I’m aware the weather may get too cold if we leave it too long. Plus I just can’t wait.
I remember when HMV had a midnight opening for the release of OK Computer, being the first in line. I hadn’t thought I was such a big fan at the time but especially liked the excitement of a late night launch.
When I took the album home and listened however, it blew my mind wide open and then, once again, a few weeks later when they headlined Glastonbury.
I’ve been entranced ever since, in awe of their relentless experimentation and their never-ending search for fascinating, beautiful and emotional sounds and textures.
I’m forever grateful to have been alive at the same time as them and to have been able to follow the incredible amount of work they’ve produced over the last 30+ years.
This mix gives the opportunity to lead a trail through their world, taking in the full range of their dynamics and their creative depths, and incorporating some of the most haunting, moving, hypnotic and inspiring songs ever written.
As this free outdoor listening session is in only 10 day’s time (at an as-of-yet undisclosed Worcester location), please be sure to SHARE it with anyone you know who especially loves Radiohead.

Storytime!
Telling you all this now to save me repeating myself this one forevermore.
25 years ago and living in Wales, I saw that The Wannadies gig in a little club in Newport was sold out. I noticed in the NME listing that the support band was called Soulwax so phoned the venue saying “Hi, I’m in Soulwax and we’re running late so if we don’t have time to sort it when we get there, can you put the name Ed Steelefox on the guest list please?”.
Got to the gig and breezed in, only for my band Soulwax to blow me away with their sharp suits, strip-light mic stands and ace electroclashy tunes.
Met them and interviewed them a while later too, asking them about these new mashups that they’d been making for their Radio Soulwax mixes. They’d found that, coming offstage after gigging all around Europe, they wanted to keep the energy up and couldn’t always count on the resident DJs in the venues and clubs they played. As 2manyDJs, their fearless, all-genres/no-shame style of mixing then started me on my own DJ journey of mashing and blending songs as if I was a third Dewaele brother myself.
At the end of the interview, as I was planning on taking my brothers to their London Virgin Megastore appearance the next day to see them for the first time, I asked them a favour.
And I thought they’d forgotten, but just before their last song I caught their eye and they called out “oh yeah, this one’s for Milo and Leo”.
We’ve all followed and enjoyed their albums, live visual animations, remixes and productions ever since, including Despacio soundsystem, all the artists they’ve released on their Deewee label and, of course, their live indie-dance band performances of Nite Versions and their peerless As Heard On Radio Soulwax Pt 2 (possibly the greatest DJ mixtape ever and the defining sound of many party around the turn of the millennium) in particular.
And Milo got me back at their awesome London show on Sunday, lifting me up and letting me be that girl on someone’s shoulders having the best time (and view) for the last song!
So big thanks to both the Dewaele and Steelefox brothers for the ride, long may it last. xXx
