I often write songs as little reminders to myself when facing doubt and uncertainty and I’m definitely someone who tends to get way ahead of myself. I wrote this to try and slow down, breathe and appreciate the moment. “Rosalie” I wrote every song on this album walking through the woods behind my house in the Black Forest, and I remember finding this chorus and singing it at the top of my lungs, alone in the woods and feeling like this song (which had many iterations) had finally become clear in my mind. With that clarity, so much of the album fell into place. “Way Back Home” This is a song I released last year with my band, Driftwood Choir. It’s a musical idea I came up with a long time ago but Portair and I tore the whole thing apart and put it back together in such a beautiful way. It was a time of extreme change in my life, leaving somewhere I’d lived for a decade to move out to the country, and it felt like I was finding my way back to my childhood, to nature, to peace after so long in the city. Last year @edprosek and I started a side project called @driftwoodchoir and we put out an album. It’s somehow made its way into a handful of episodes of Grey’s Anatomy including this latest one and we are eternally grateful. Today the 5th song from my upcoming album came out and it’s actually the origin of the whole album and the first song I wrote for this album specifically. It’s called Rock Climber I wrote it back when I was thinking of this album as a bit of a conceptual piece about people who’d been important to me in my life but I’d lost touch with, and sadly It’s about the tragic death of an old friend of mine and reflecting on what the final moments of a life well lived might be like. Anyway I don’t want to be too morbid, spring is here and there’s plenty to look forward to, I Hope you love the song❤️ As always this song was recorded in my studio in the Black Forest and mixed and mastered by my friend @paduddel in his beautiful @glaswaldstudios And special thanks as always to my label @nettwerkmusic for their constant support❤️
