So happy to see my good friend
@lareportera , Jazmine Ulloa, launch her book, El Paso, into the world. I remember first meeting her in 2009 or 2010 when she was a cub reporter for The Brownsville Herald and we were both at the Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe Mass and procession, on the job. Now she is a New York Times national correspondent, along with another dear friend,
@edjsandoval , who I’ve know since we were newspaper interns. And I’m occasionally writing for The New York Times Magazine. These border kids got somewhere!
Just as proud to hear
@selizondogriest also present her book, Art Above Everything, at the San Antonio Book Festival. No photographic evidence of us together, but trust that we had delicious food and hours of deep conversation, our usual MO.
It was a life-giving weekend with writer and journalist friends who remind me why we do what we do.
