May and June are going to be adventurous at Theater Erfurt: Jonathan Dove’s family opera IN 80 TAGEN UM DIE WELT, based on the novel by Jules Vernes, celebrates its German Premiere on May 9. Jonathan Dove and German librettist Peter Lund conjure the world of Phileas Fogg’s adventure to circumnavigate the globe in 80 days. Verne’s travel story is set to stage by musical director Clemens Fieguth and stage director Nina Kühner.

Today, May 7, CONVERGENCE by Jesper Nordin receives its European premiere at the Konserthuset Stockholm with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Pekka Kuusisto as soloist and Ryan Bancroft on the podium. Scored for violin, orchestra, live electronics, and live-projected visuals, the work uses Nordin's own interactive technology to allow the soloist and conductor to trigger virtual instruments through physical movement in real time.

After the world premiere at the end of April, “Four skEtches” by Martón Illés receives its Austrian premiere on May 4 at the Konzerthaus, Vienna. The work for ensemble and live electronics, which explores the effect of live electronics on the instrumental material, is performed by Klangforum Vienna and IRCAM Paris, lead by conductor Elena Schwarz.

To honor his centenary, Fabrice Bollon, jazz trumpeter Sebastian Studnitzky and Staatskapelle Halle dedicate the evening of April 30 to the great trumpeter Miles Davis. IN MILES’ AURA is not only honoring Davis’ extraordinary musical personality, but also explores how an improvising jazz trumpeter can be integrated into the fabric of an orchestra.

Fabián Panisello pays TRIBUTE to three major figures of the musical world:
Ivan Fedele, Paloma O’Shea and Peter Eötvös.
His composition, which comprises three stand-alone homage pieces, receives its World Premiere tonight in Madrid by Panisello’s Plural Ensemble.

Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik open on April 24 with the world premiere of Márton Illés’ “Four skEtches”. Sally Beamish’s DISTANS, a double concerto for clarinet, violin and orchestra, receives its German Premiere tomorrow, April 23. Conducted by Sakari Oramo, Clarinetist Martin Fröst, for whom the concerto was written, and violinist Vadim Gluzman present the work at the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall. Written during the lockdown of 2020, the work explores the idea of connection and isolation.
