Opened for the stunning @temsbaby last week, here’s a little recap. Huge thanks to @billboarduk and @troxylondon for having me 💐
That said, this one’s a bit of a bittersweet one. I accepted the booking before it became clear that @sxswlondon would platform figures like Tony Blair and David Cameron, known architects of war crimes and violent policies that 1) I don’t agree with and 2) feel contradictory to the programming of diverse and politically conscious musicians on the lineup.
You can’t spotlight the sexy sounds of the diaspora while at the same time given a mic to politicians who’s legacies continue to harm the communities the artists come from. This is disappointing, as artists, we shouldn’t have to navigate these ethical minefields after the fact, and I am still uncomfortable with the mental gynamistics that went with deciding to go ahead. Festivals and organisers must do better by the artists they book.
I created space in my set for some Palestinian bangers, and wore my Palestine tee on stage still, I acknowledge that showing up at all is complicated.
In solidarity with artists who withdrew, I’m donating 50% of my fee to the Global Solidarity Strike fund organised by Ravers For Palestine.
Free Palestine and beyond ALWAYS x
