This weekend, MICAS formally inaugurated 'Reggie Burrows Hodges: Mela', a new exhibition that takes its name from the widely used Maltese word “mela”—a word the artist Reggie Burrows Hodges observed often precedes the expression of a thought. While living in #Malta, Hodges entered into a new dialogue between his artistic practice and the environment of the Maltese islands, which resulted in the creation of 30 works made specifically for this current exhibition. This makes it the most ambitious body of work of Reggie Burrows Hodges's career. “The exhibition has a number of separate groupings and series running through it. Hodges’s long-running Labor series, which explores and celebrates the activity of productive work often by those who ultimately benefit least from it, undergoes a Maltese perspective,” said MICAS Artistic Director, Edith Devaney. @edith_devaney The opening of this exhibition marks a new chapter for MICAS, where “MICAS is now a place that generates the conditions for art to happen,” said MICAS Executive Chairperson Phyllis Muscat. @muscatphyllis 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝗛𝗼𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘀: 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝟯𝟬 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁. #micasmalta #reggieburrowshodges #melaexhibition #artmuseums #visitmalta #malta #lovemalta #maltaart #maltaevents

I attended the opening of Thomas Houseago’s (@thomas_houseago_studio_ ) exhibition Journey at the Xavier Hufkens Gallery (@xavierhufkens ) in Brussels on Thursday 5th (on until 2 May). Although celebrating 30 years of collaboration between the artist and gallery, all the work is recent and includes wooden and bronze sculpture, paintings and a maze, which was inspired by the artist’s visit to the Hypogeum in Malta when he visited MICAS (@micasmalta ) last year. The exhibition is amazingly intense and uplifting, with references to many past masters including Van Gogh and Picasso. The opening was followed by a wonderful dinner at the beautiful Art Deco Boghossian Foundation. #belgium #exhibitions #thomashouseago

Attended a small private view of Tracey Emin wonderful new exhibition at @tate Such a beautiful and moving exhibition which stays with you long after. It was followed by a small dinner at White Cube where Tracey spoke very movingly about the exhibition and her work. So wonderful to see again some of the great works I had included in my exhibition at the Royal Academy in 2021 The Loneliness of the Soul: Tracey Emin and Edvard Munch. (More about this exhibition can be seen on YouTube: Beyond White Cube: ‘Tracey Emin / Edvard Munch’ at the Royal Academy of Arts.)
