An endless zoom… of an endless zoom. 😆
Our first
@edit.party collab video in 2020 featured 19 people, but our community has grown so much over the last three years that we wanted to push the limit! This concept was a fun way to have 7️⃣6️⃣ people collaborate on one video.
The logistics of this scope are extremely challenging, so let me walk you through the thought process!
I wanted to include as many people as possible without the video getting too long and boring. So I decided on 8️⃣ main scenes (so we could loop the music), each of which would have a 3x3 gallery view on screen showing 8️⃣ additional people (middle box is the next scene.)
I originally thought about doing this with a gimbal dollying into the screens, but the logistics of everyone shooting with a gimbal while still being in the shot just didn’t make sense, so we did tripod shots.
I sent each of the “main characters” a list of instructions about how large the computer screen should be in the shot, what frame rate to shoot at, lighting etc. The gallery view people were able to shoot whatever they wanted as long as it was the correct frame rate!
Once we got all of the footage,
@divaaverill recreated the zoom interface as an editable template and added everyone’s names. Finally, I found the right zoom speed that was energetic but not disorienting, and set the scale keyframes to “exponential scale” to get the smooth zoom.
The logistics of coordinating 76 busy people across different timezones with just a few days notice is a huge undertaking— Diva is a rockstar for making this actually happen!!
Thanks to everyone who participated!! I can’t tag 76 people on here so here are the main characters (the rest will be in comments!) 🥳❤️
