Here’s how we made this endless toilet sequence for my latest music video.
3D Previz:
Set the correct sensor size and focal length for your 3D camera so it matches the one you're gonna shoot with. Figure out the height you need to build the cubicle and how high your camera needs to be.
Build one cubicle:
We used chipboards but any wood should work. If it’s bendy, build a frame to support it, and if the surface is smooth scratch it up with a knife or screw driver so the hot glue sticks. To hotglue a tile, put a big dot of glue in every corner of the tile then press onto the wood. Use the cement for the rest of the walls and grout lines.
Set up the cubicle:
If it shakes too much, support it with some pieces of wood.
Set up scaffolding:
Choose the height based on your previz. If you don’t have scaffolding, big tripods should also do the job.
Use motorslider:
We used an Atlas Modular Slider with Motion Control. The travel distance was around 4 meters.
Redecorate for each scene:
Use whiteboard markers on the tiles and stickers for the cement.
Grill sausages for your crew:
This one is optional.
Stitch takes together:
I had to do it by hand since the tracking didn’t work. Maybe put some tracking markers on the walls and retouch them out. Otherwise be ready to spend a day masking.
