When you hear the words 'Elk Island homestead', you probably won't picture this warmly decorated, eclectic home.
Of the original building, "It was far worse than I remembered. I came home and I cried," says Shweta.
But the Hannemans left their downtown loft for the country, having already spent time thinking about what it could look like — and stayed in Nate's parents' basement while they worked with local contractors to make their home feel like an extensions of themselves.
