We helped Bea go from no ring muscle up to linking multiple reps, this is how we helped her:
- Personalised plan for her based on her ability.
- Targeted drills (for Bea that was not using her hips enough), no redundant drills for the sake of it.
- Mastered the fundamental positions to ensure a strong foundation to build from.
- Developed the required strength (dips/pull-ups).
Be like Bea, if you want to develop your skills get a plan and follow it!

When I first started weightlifting, I thought for the longest time, “I’m not ready to compete yet.”
I thought that I needed to be able to snatch a certain weight or be a certain bodyweight to compete. But the truth is, you’ll never truly feel ready.
It doesn’t matter what’s on the bar. If you’re showing up each session, hitting consistent lifts and numbers, and making progress, you’re already ahead. You don’t need to be perfect to start competing.
The first few comps you do aren’t about winning or hitting PBs. They’re about getting exposure, learning how you respond under pressure, and actually just doing more of the sport that you’ve spent the past 6 months or year training to get better at.
One day I stopped thinking I wasn’t “good enough” and signed up for my first comp. I used to think weightlifting was a solitary sport, but I was so wrong. Even though I turned up at my first competition by myself with no coach, plenty of people reached out to help me when it was my turn to lift.
So if you’re thinking about competing… just do it. Find a comp and sign up.
Don’t wait until you feel ready.

Semifinals bound 🚀
During a period where the focus has been work and studying and a little less training, Gemma still smashed it and has qualified for semifinals!
Your CrossFit parents are very proud of you 👏
Let’s make sure this gal has a belt on hand always in June.

Quarter finals done for another year. Had a lot of fun and here are my takeaways:
1. I love have training partners who beat me in most things. I’d rather be the worst (well maybe not the absolute worst) than the best in the gym. Being beaten and having standards raised constantly keeps me hungry to improve.
2. You can have the perfect training plan but the intangibles of training matter more. Doing it with like minded people, with friends, in the right environment matters hugely. I’m lucky that @slevenfitness provides that in spades.
3. I get more joy and fulfilment out of seeing my athletes (and friends) doing well in workouts and competitions than out of my own performances.
4. It’s 100% worth entering comps/qualifiers, even if you can’t do half the workouts/movements, or feel like you’re ‘not good enough’ to compete. One thing I’d do differently in my own fitness journey is entering scores and comps, even if I did shit, so I could track my progress more accurately over time.
5. I train really hard to be really very average and that’s fine.
