I just finished filming my first-ever drum course at the legendary Rockfield Studios. ‘Drums in Context’ is a course all about thinking like a musician, not just a drummer. It breaks down why to do certain things on the kit, what to play, and, most importantly, what not to play. The course includes a mixture of fly-on-the-wall footage and breakdown videos of me tracking songs I know and songs I don’t. One of the tracks is a Busted song I’ve never heard before, with
@charliesimpson tracking me. You’ll see, from start to finish, what the session looked like, what I play, why I play it, and Charlie’s thoughts and reasons for certain musical choices. I will also show you how I create, write, and record parts without having a producer or the artist present, using a royalty-free track, and explain why you should do the same.
Everything I’ve learned about this beautiful yet confusing instrument has been put into this course, with the hope that it helps someone, somewhere, at some point in their journey behind the kit.
The value that drummers bring to music and bands should never be overlooked or undervalued—by either yourself or others. You’re a musician, not just a drummer. In this course, I’ll show you everything I’ve learned that has helped me bring value to musical projects.
It will be releasing soon. In the meantime, I’ll be posting snippets here. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out via DM or leave them below. I’m beyond excited to share this
