Relationship building starts with an introduction. Hi! My name is Eddy M. Gana, LCSW (they/them/theirs). My core values are (1) self determination, (2) therapeutic expression, and (3) recognition of systems. What brings you to seek therapy? 💜🧡 According to the American Psychological Association, the quality of a therapist-client relationship is as vital to a positive outcome as using the appropriate treatment method. Relationship factors include agreeing on therapy goals, discussing client feedback throughout the course of treatment, and repairing ruptures. By having open conversations together, I believe in the therapeutic elements of self-expression for your personal growth and greater social change. Schedule a 20 minute consultation session at no cost to you via video at eddytherapy.com. Let’s discuss your interest in mental health care and any symptoms you may be experiencing. Let’s build and explore! 😊 #therapistlife #introduction #mentalhealthawareness #hellomynameis #filipinotherapists #queertherapist #decolonizetherapy #therapistsofinstagram #nonbinarytherapist #queerpride #happypride #therapistofcolor #californiatherapist #genderqueer #mentalhealthmonday

« Have you ever heard of “The Forbidden Book”? It’s not your fault if you haven’t. It was “forbidden” for a reason. The book documents over 200 political cartoons used as propaganda to justify the Philippine-American War from 1899 to 1902, a dark and brutal part of our history not often taught in schools. The war resulted in the death of thousands of soldiers and as many as 200,000 Filipino civilians, though the estimate is closer to a million casualties accounting for the indigenous people of the Philippines. Alongside recommended readings for every Filipino/a/x-American therapist, such as “Brown Skin, White Minds: Filipino-American Postcolonial Psychology” and “Clinical Interventions for Internalized Oppression,” this historical book is a must to better contextualize colonial mentality and racism in the Philippines and the United States. This article invites self-reflection. Understanding our history prevents repeating past mistakes. Our values shape how we accept or disrupt this world. After 400 years of Spanish and American colonization, un-learning is easier said than done. » - Eddy M. Gana, LCSW Read the whole Therapin*y blog post, « The Ripples of Colonial Mentality Through History » by our Therapin*y Non-Binary Kapwa Collective co-lead @eddytherapy (they/them/theirs). Happy International Transgender Day of Visibility! 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 Today is a reminder: we exist. Trans is beautiful. As a licensed clinical social worker, living as trans is not a mental health problem. Transphobia, violence, and hate are the real issues at hand. We are not seeking attention. We are calling for safety, understanding, and love. There is no agenda when transgender has endured in many cultures for centuries. We are simply existing because trans is who we are. 📷: @balisongxla

The Non-Binary Therapinxy Network presents an intimate open mic night in celebration of Filipinx/a/o-American History Month. In this political climate, we need safe spaces to express creatively as a way to not only cope, but also reflect the tumultuous times we live in. This open mic is for artists, poets, writers, singers, rappers, comedians, and more. 5 min max. In the spirit of building bayanihan, we welcome community safety, empowerment, and authenticity. Sign up for the open mic or just listen for the healing vibes. While we appreciate allies, this space is for LGBTQ+ only. Open Mic Guidelines: ⭐️ Community Safety, Empowerment, and Authenticity ⭐️ 5 min max ⭐️ No screen recording for privacy and confidentiality ⭐️ For LGBTQ+ only Registration 🔗 in bio I’m hosting! Representing @thesundayjump , the longest running open mic series for 13 years in Historic Filipinotown, Los Angeles. Open mics are my favorite because it’s all about self-expression. 🎤📝🎶🎹

we need more empathy, patience, and understanding in this world. we need less bigotry, intolerance, and hate in this world. when trans rights are under attack, we must always fight back. if trans folks genuinely say something is transphobic, most likely it is. i respectfully ask to come from a place of curiosity, not defensiveness. for allies, what privileges do you carry and are you willing to leverage it to help defend the safety of trans folks? for others still learning (and that’s okay), where is your discomfort stemming from? what brings you to attribute transphobia to an issue of communication, but not systemic oppression? disagreements are for coffee vs tea, not whether gender-affirming care is necessary or not because people’s lives are at stake when depression, anxiety, and suicide rates are high. for example, reinforcing someone’s agency by calling them the correct name and pronouns is proven to reduce suicidal behaviors by over 60% alone (@translifeline , 2025). when another anti-trans policy is passed, it is unrealistic to focus merely on coping skills. as a therapist with a social work lens, addressing systems of oppression is key to healing, empowerment, and community-building. for us queer filipinx/a/os across the diaspora, this looks like kapwa (or shared inner self) as we navigate the -ism’s daily. for cis folks, remember there is no neutrality in times of injustice. so what side of history will you stand on? because at the end of the day, trans rights are human rights, and there is plenty of love and care to spread around. ingat lagi. 🏳️‍⚧️💞 Disclaimer: This account is not a substitute for therapy. @kanto.corner is love for the people. Thanks to my comrades for making this possible and we’re only getting started! Organized locally by two of HiFi’s long-standing grassroots organizations, @thesundayjump and @kmb_la , this is for the community that raised us. Raised in a Filipino town, Union City, I was a youth organizer of Pilipino Youth Coalition then moved to SoCal in 2006. I became involved in the poetry scene throughout my college years and organizing open mics as a safe space. In 2011, I was inspired to learn about Historic Filipinotown after returning from the APIA Spoken Word and Poetry Summit. In HiFi, or P-town as it was called back then, the people and neighborhood reminded me so much of my own hometown. Over the decade, there we were: my mentors and comrades rallying together, artists reflecting the times, and communities across cultures fighting against racism, capitalism, and imperialism. It’s wild. I’ve now lived in SoCal longer than the Bay. I can’t believe it at times, but also by how often time feels to be going by so fast, I’m thankful. There is plenty of history, but “historic” does not mean it is only a relic of the past. Historic Filipinotown’s been living, and is a vibrant home. I am beyond proud of what we accomplished with Kanto Corner. Eager and excited for more. This is a labor of love. This is community care. Thank you for another family party at the park y’all. We will be back! 🙏🏽
