Rest in peace, @the.ronnie.bowman
From late-night pickinâ tunes until the sun came up @delfest ⊠those are moments Iâll never forget. There was something special about those circles real music, real connection, and Ronnie right there in the heart of it all.
Thank you for sharing your music, your knowledge, and your spirit with all of us. Your vocal class meant a lot to me. I learned so much just being in the room with you.
And the jokes we shared were my favorite part. You had a way of making people feel comfortable, like you were just one of the guys, even though you were one of the greats.
My heart goes out to Garnet and the entire family.
Your voice and your presence will live on in every jam, every song, every late-night pick.
Much love, Ronnie. đ¶
Clip of Eddie Lightner & The Potomac Pickers play âDobro Rhumbaâ at Chesapeake Winter Bluegrass festival. (often spelled âDobro Rumbaâ) is a classic instrumental most closely associated with Josh Graves (also known as Buck Graves), the groundbreaking dobro player for Flatt & Scruggs.
The tune was originally written by Hawaiian steel guitarist Dick McIntire in the 1930s under the title âHula Blues.â It came from the Hawaiian steel guitar tradition, which heavily influenced early dobro style.
When Josh Graves brought the dobro into the hard-driving bluegrass context in the 1950s, he adapted âHula Bluesâ into what became known in bluegrass circles as âDobro Rhumba.â @doyouevendobro@gagestephens90@banjohollow@optimisticchris #warmvibes #hulablues #dobro #rhumba #bluegrass
đ Valentineâs Day Love from Eddie Lightner & The Potomac Pickers đ
Sharing a special moment from the Chesapeake Winter Bluegrass Festival in Annapolis, Maryland with our take on âSame Kind of Crazy,â played in celebration of @delmccouryband birthday. Del frequently plays this song. One of our favorites!
Written by Delbert McClinton and Gary Nicholson and first appearing on Delbertâs 2002 album Room to Breathe, the song tells the story of finding someone whoâs just as wonderfully wild-hearted as you are a perfect feeling for Valentineâs Day. â€ïžđ¶ Grateful for the music, the friendships, and the love that bluegrass keeps bringing together.

Catching up with Ronnie McCoury that has had a profound impact on my musical growth.
His playing, leadership, and generosity helped shape the musician Iâm becoming.
The first photo is with Jean McCoury, because it matters:
the women behind the musicians are essential.
