Hey everyone! Wanted to share a pic from one my current teaching assignments. I’m teaching Voice Acting to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders in Los Angeles public schools!! Three 2-hour sessions with each grade. It’s part of this particular elementary school’s extended learning program. I get the kids to draw a character straight from their own imagination... then we put each student’s character in some imaginary circumstances and write a few lines of dialogue for them... then, we record! They can either voice the character themselves or they can cast the role and direct another actor. The results so far have been amazing! One child, who the teacher told me has never written anything, wrote an entire screenplay after our first class and brought it in to show me on the second class!! Another child, who can’t read yet, let me feed them lines one at a time, and we recorded them easily and they really got to play with the words. It got them to look at the words, as we were voicing, and I really think we made progress with their learning to read! In the 3rd and final class with each grade, they read actual industry audition copy from their favorite tv shows/movies/video games, and it’s wild to see them put it all together and learn how an animated tv show is made. Just wrapped up third grade and will move on to 4th grade today. Hopefully other schools will have me in to teach Voice Acting, as I am officially a fully insured LAUSD vendor now, and available to teach in YOUR school!
