We hope you had the best time at GreenRoots 2026! From gnome homes, hammocks and spiders to biking, caricatures, capstone projects, an incredible jazz band, awards and scholarships it was night to remember! Huge thank you to everyone who helped to plan, partner, set up, tear down and share your time and also your children with us. We hope you enjoy this little behind the scenes of some of our favorite moments from the night!

Learning happens everywhere and last week, our classroom was Frick Park. 🌳🐴 @ecspgh cohort students stepped into leadership with so much heart, guiding younger classmates and sharing the confidence, curiosity, and wisdom their herd has helped them grow. This is learning in action! This is community in motion! This is what a student-centered partnership looks like! Co‑creating moments that stay with students long after the day is over, shaping how they grow, thrive, and see themselves as leaders, is something we’re truly grateful for.❤️ #equineassistedlearning #outdoorclassroom #learninginaction #partnership #frickpark

ECS is celebrating our Annual Bike, Walk & Roll to School Days this month- at ECMS (May 13), ECHS (May 20—our first ever at ECHS!), and the Intermediate School (May 27)! This year, we’re also adding a new Smoothie Breakfast Celebration once you arrive to help you kick off your day strong. All students are encouraged to bike, walk, roll, carpool, or take school bus or PRT to school, then join us during arrival to celebrate our district’s commitment to active, sustainable transportation with a refreshing smoothie, raffle prizes, and more. Intermediate School families: We’d love to grow our regular bike buses- families riding the same route on a consistent schedule so more kids can join in along the way. Interested in helping start one in your neighborhood? Reach out at [email protected] we’ll help map routes, connect families, and spread the word to get it rolling in time for May 27!

Last Wednesday it was a packed house for the middle school performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream! Under the direction of Mr. Angelo our students rose to the challenge of Shakespeare and pulled off a riveting performance! If missed it - don’t fret. You have one more chance to see the performance tomorrow evening (Wednesday, May 6 at 5:00 p.m.) at the middle school cafe.

Pittsburgh’s Department of City Planning has been working on a Comprehensive Plan for the City of Pittsburgh - Comp Plan 2050 - to help guide the city for the next 25 years with the aim to create an equitable, safe, welcoming, and thriving city for all residents. As part of gathering resident voices to help guide the plan, two Senior Planners visited ECS this week to share the goals of the plan and to hear from our ECS HS students about their hopes and dreams for Pittsburgh. As part of the session - ECS students identified positives, areas for improvement and challenges they face as residents - and ideas for future change that would make PIttsburgh a place they could see spending their adult years. It was an insightful and robust conversation and we look forward to welcoming PGH City Planning back in the fall for their next round of discussions! Thank you for visiting us!
