I am bad at self promotion but @jessiecannizzaro and I have been working on making a solid, real version of the story that’s been in my head since it happened 8 years ago. It’s gonna air on 6/29 at 7p digitally (Closed Captioning will be available) so you can watch it from your home!! Hopefully funny and I’ll try to answer the question: apart from being some hateful, ableist bullshit, why ELSE is Andrew yang’s idea that more psych beds is the answer ABSOLUTELY FUCKING GARBAGE?? Cannot gush enough about all the funny and hot people in this lineup (watch them all!!! Give them staff writing jobs!!!!) and cannot emphasize enough that you should not rank yang! Link in bio but also if you subscribe you can see ALL 8 CAMP shows for $15 (or $20 if you buy individually/don’t wanna subscribe)!

I've been restructuring my monthly donations and reparations plans to redirect funds/time/energy into mutual aid projects. This graphic was prompted by @designtodivest . "Mutual Aid Projects are a form of political participation in which people take responsibility for caring for one another & changing political conditions NOT just through symbolic acts or putting pressure on representatives, but by actually building new social relations that are more survivable." - Dean Spade, from "Shit's Totally FUCKED! What Can We Do?: A Mutual Aid Explainer" . [ID: Black text on a blue and white gradient background. Text: "Participate in Mutual Aid Work" Five stickers appear on image, each with text. Yellow Sticker: "Red Hook Hub: Sharing Community Information. redhookhub.org" Green Sticker: "Red Hook Current Food Offerings. tinyurl.com/redhookfood" Pink Sticker: "Red Hook Mutual Aid Resources. tinyurl.com/redhookresources" Orange Sticker: "South Brooklyn Mutual Aid. southbkmutualaid.com" White Sticker: "These are just some of the Mutual Aid Projects in South Brooklyn. Full text continued in the captions. [ID: 9 Slides. Text only. Purple text on a pale brown background. If you live in Brooklyn or Queens, you are living on occupied Canarsee, Lenape land. Canarsee, Lenapehoking The Canarsee people inhabited much of what is now called Brooklyn & Queens.
Although they were classified as one tribe by European colonizers, these classifications were often wrong, conflating Native languages & cultures, and misunderstanding Indigenous societal structures. “The written history of the native people in this area was always left to the non-native community to write, and with their ignorance of Lenape ways and language, their documentation was seldom accurate. Therefore, we rely on our oral history more than the writings found in the history books.” - The Ramapaough Lenape Nation / Neighborhoods that were once sites of Canarsee community include Red Hook (Sassian), Gowanus, Bay Ridge (Nyack), Brooklyn Heights (Ihpetonga), the Navy Yard, Boerum Hill, & Gravesend. Non-Native accounts record the Canarsee people as “extinct” by the 1820s, their population having been decimated by European colonial state & company-sanctioned genocide. But the Canarsee are part of the Lenape Diaspora, which, due to forced migration, includes large communities (including five federally recognized tribes) in Ontario, Wisconsin, & Oklahoma, as well as throughout Lënapehóking. Donate / The Indigenous Kinship Collective is a community of Indigenous women, femmes, and gender non-conforming folk who gather on Lenni Lenape land to honor each other and their relatives through art, activism, education, and representation. Donate / The Lenape Center, based in Manhattan (Manahatta) and led by Lenape elders, works to continue the Lenape homeland through community, culture, and the arts. Donate/Shop / Tribal Nations Maps, the result of a 14-year research project Aaron Carapella (Cherokee/Anglo) undertook to create a map of pre-colonized American lands. (Continued in first comment)

Black Trans Women Matter. The link in my bio goes to an invaluable resource - a document full of actions and resources for solidarity, created as a "a collaborative effort between people who stand in solidarity with Black trans women and wanted to make a difference, and some of the foremost Black trans leaders in community and culture." and inspired by The Trans Obituaries Project by @raquel_willis Justice for #NinaPop #MonikaDiamond #RemMieFells #RiahMilton #BlackTransLivesMatter [ID: Black text on a multicolored background. Abolition can’t wait. Reforms have been tried and tried and tried. The time to defund is now. The time for abolition is now. Many thanks to @cemicool @theleilaraven theafrolegalise @sultanreina @sheabutterfemme @hamidtasnuva @micahherskind @dereckapurnell @blacktransfutures @rachelkuro for synthesizing, contributing, and creating the #8toAbolition campaign. I have allowed myself to think smaller - to be limited in what I thought was accomplishable - largely because my white privilege affords me safety and comfort for doing so. If you’re someone who is newer to the Abolition movement, I am open to discuss this with anyone. Please DM me. Some places to start: Please check out 8toabolition.com, Read Alex Vitale’s The End of Policing & Angela Davis’ Are Prisons Obsolete?, follow @mpd_150 . Link in bio to actionable steps for NYC. [ID: Orange text on black background. At the top, the words “#8ToAbolition A World without prisons or police where we can all be safe” 8 icons, each with an accompanying action. 1. Image of money with the words: Defund the police 2. Image of a neighborhood with buildings and trees with the words: demilitarize communities. 3. Image of a cop with the no symbol with the words: Remove police from schools. 4. Image of bars breaking with the words: Free people from prisons and jails. Text: We believe in a world where there are zero police murders because there are zero police. 5. Image of a clipboard with the words: Repeal laws decriminalizing survival. 6. Image of people talking with the words: Invest in community self-governance. 7. Image of a home with the words: Provide safe housing for everyone. 8. Image of handcuffs reimagined as hearts with the words: invest in care, not cops. Text: Abolition can’t wait.]

Today is Breonna Taylor’s birthday. She should have been 27 today. The only way to begin to make this right is to work today and every day to dismantle white supremacy — right now by abolishing the police, and continually. Today let’s honor and celebrate Breonna and make sure her name is remembered and served. In my bio is a link to action items assembled by @battymamzelle — thank you — participate in all actions that you can. #SayHerName #BreonnaTaylor #BirthdayforBreonna [ID: purple background with a sprig if forget me nots. The name Breonna Taylor in black letters four times.]

[ID: Black square with white text that reads: "The link in my bio will open a draft of an email from you to every single NYC council member asking them to deny the Mayor's budget which grossly overfunds the NYPD. Just insert your name, neighborhood, and signature, and click send. If you want to know more about Defunding the Police, start with Alex S. Vitale's The End of Policing. Reposting from @decolonizethisplace Black Lives Over Property. Black Lives Over Capitalism. Black Lives Matter. Link in bio is a link tree - posts have different links to resources and orgs needing $$ support. . Communique No. 1 — In Furtherance of the #GeorgeFloyd sparked Insurrection, reads in part: “Nothing gets attention like threats to private property. Nothing goes more directly to the heart of the policing mission. Nothing more graphically illustrates the limits of liberalism. But these are not the only reasons to refuse condemnation of Destructive Protest. The anti-capitalist spirit of this insurgency needs to be seen and heard. Banks and retailers that target, and siphon off, the dollars of poor, Black, and Brown communities are not neutral or blameless bystanders. Nor are the big chain stores like Target that have driven gentrification all over our cities. As for 1% outlets like Chanel and Gucci, we say good riddance.” *** “Any strike against these property icons should speak for itself. But some people don’t get it. So what do we say to those who denounce these actions as “senseless looting,” and therefore as a distraction from the “real” problem of police brutality? Take a hard look at the economic violence of racial capitalism. Tell us that policing has nothing to do with the destruction caused by property accumulation. Cops are not bystanders, they are the frontline enforcers of this system. They always have been.” 🧱 🧱 🧱 #ftp #decolonizethisplace
