The British far right is stronger than at any time in its history. But workers and tenants organising can defeat them. We have to respond to the scapegoating of marginalised people with calls for massive investment in services, infrastructure, homes, and jobs for everyone, funded by taxing billionaires and corporations. We have to place the blame for our falling living standards where it really belongs - with bosses, landlords and the rich. Bring your branch - bring your union banners! Let's make this big!

Hi bbz, ASL? Decrim Now have released a new survey to learn about s3x worker experiences of using adult platforms/websites and social media in relation to s3x work. We’re launching this survey a year on from changes to online safety regulation (Online Safety Act) to track how it has impacted s3x workers. We know you have had to change the way you work on the platforms you use to advertise services, and that your social media accounts are being increasingly censored or shut down. We want to understand how wide these issues are, and how these changes have impacted your income, safety and wellbeing. If you want to let the Government know how these changes have impacted you, follow the link in our bio and fill out the survey. We will use your responses as evidence to lobby the Government, pushing for changes to the law and make sure your voices are heard. Share this post and the survey with your your top 8 on MySpace x

Maria has been tirelessly working the streets of Enfield as a sex worker on and off for seven years now, after escaping Romania to try and make a better life for her family back home. ⁣ ⁣ ‘Many women like me do this work because we have no other way to survive,’ Maria, 27, tells Metro. ‘Some of us have children. Many of us have left bad or violent relationships. We are all just trying to live.’⁣ ⁣ While she used to work on well-lit, populated streets and car parks, for over a year, Maria has been forced to work alone on desolated streets, parks, and in dark corners – all in a bid, she says, to get away from the watchful eyes of police.⁣ ⁣ The shift came about due to a Metropolitan Police initiative called ‘Operation Pisces’, which was introduced with Enfield Council in June 2024 to tackle organised crime and antisocial behaviour. ⁣ ⁣ However, according to Maria and other sex workers in the area, it has only put them more at risk. ‘Things got so much worse for us,’ she explains. ‘Police were – and still are – everywhere. They tell us to move all the time. They shout and threaten us with arrest, so we retreat to quiet places, which is very dangerous.’⁣ ⁣ Niki Adams of the English Collective of Prostitutes says that as far as she’s concerned Operation Pisces was effectively a ‘police crackdown against street sex workers in Enfield’s long-established red-light area.’⁣ ⁣ The impact on sex workers has been ‘devastating,’ says Niki. ‘Women say they feel hunted, persecuted and fearful. Many are survivors of rape and other violence and domestic abuse; being shouted at and threatened by police is very distressing and retraumatising.⁣ ⁣ ‘Why aren’t the police and council asking what support women, and particularly mothers, need to survive instead of persecuting and criminalising them?’ she asks. ‘The impact of a criminal record is lifelong. We see women barred from other jobs, from housing, and even losing custody of their children just because they have a prostitute’s caution or conviction.’⁣ ⁣ Full article by @laurencrosbymedlicott LINK IN BIO

We are fundraising to support Ms XX, a sex worker defending herself against a civil case brought by a wealthy former partner who she believes is using the courts to continue his coercive control and abuse after she left the relationship. He is falsely claiming that money given during the relationship was a “loan,” and is seeking to recover this money back through seemingly weaponising sex work stigma and financial pressure to punish and silence her. Despite this, Ms XX has already secured a rare and groundbreaking anonymity order based on the real dangers sex workers face if they are outed — a win that promotes sex workers’ safety and access to justice. Supporting this case means standing against economic abuse, challenging the misuse of the courts, and backing strategic litigation with lasting impact for sex workers’ rights. When Sally first began working in the sex industry, Soho was⁣ considered ‘a fairly safe place’ for people like her, she tells Metro.⁣ ‘We’ve got CCTV and all the workers have each other. Girls are safe⁣ inside the flats, and a maid is usually outside listening for any⁣ trouble inside the rooms,’⁣ . . . ⁣ . . . However, in the last five weeks, groups of up to 40 young people aged 10 to 20 started harassing Sally⁣ and other sex workers in Soho, leaving them in a state of anxiety and fearing for their safety.⁣ ⁣ The kids, often with hoods on their heads, have thrown glasses at the⁣ door, ripped down signs in the hall, tried to take down the CCTVs and⁣ bashed the walls with metal poles.⁣ ⁣ While some of the workers would love to confront the gangs, they have⁣ to hold themselves back as they can’t risk being filmed or being set⁣ upon by the older youths.⁣ ⁣ ‘It’s disgusting,’ Sally says. ‘We’re just trying to earn money and⁣ feed our families.’⁣ ⁣ Niki Adams, spokesperson for the English Collective of Prostitutes,⁣ said the attacks are escalating – becoming more frequent and more⁣ dangerous for the wide range of British and migrant workers in the⁣ Soho flats.⁣ ⁣ Although some women have reported the harassment to the police, they⁣ admitted they felt in two minds about doing so.⁣ ⁣ ‘It takes a great deal of courage for sex workers to report incidents⁣ to the police,’ says Niki, explaining that the women risk being⁣ criminalised by the police for working together. ‘There is clearly a major concern that police priorities could shift if called by sex workers and they would focus on investigating the women for working in what is considered an illegal setting. This points to a serious problem with prostitution laws, which prevent women from working together safely.’ She adds that it ‘takes real bravery’ for women to risk ringing the police to report this latest round of harassment – ‘but they feel they are being fobbed off and treated as though their lives don’t matter.’ Full article by @laurencrosbymedlicott LINK IN BIO

NO BAD WOMEN, JUST BAD POLICE⁣ ⁣ On this International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers we demand decriminalisation, protection from rape and other violence and to get the police off our backs.⁣ ⁣ We interviewed sex workers in our network about their experiences at the hands of the police, both as victims of violence and when facing criminal charges.⁣ ⁣ What they describe is “saturation policing and no protection”.⁣ ⁣ Fear of arrest, deportation, losing their children to social services and general retaliation by police meant that most sex workers did not report violence when they were attacked and those that did faced dismissal, threats and further harm.⁣ ⁣ Sex workers we interviewed were clear about what they do want: decriminalisation and money in women’s hands so we have choices to leave sex work if we want.⁣ ⁣ Taking the police out of prostitution would allow sex workers to report rape and other violence more easily, organise for safety, work with others, and demand justice.⁣ ⁣ See link in bio.⁣ ⁣ #Dec17 #IDEVASW
