In partnership with @iucn_asap we had the pleasure of hosting @kanopi_indonesia and @bisa_ina to Simeulue to share knowledge and experience on running conservation projects across Indonesia.
Today we would like to introduce you to more of our team here at @ecosystemimpactfoundation .
On this Kartini Day we asked them what it means for them to be a women working with EcosystemImpact in the 21st century. And what today means to them.
Today - Kartini Day - commemorates Raden Ajeng Kartini who is recognized for her fight for women’s emancipation in Indonesia in the 19th century.
We also remember the incredible Acehnese hero Cut Nyak Dhien (1848– 1908) who was a leader of the Acehnese guerrilla forces during the Aceh War. Following the death of her husband Teuku Umar, she led guerrilla actions against the Dutch for 25 years.

Just before the start of Ramadhan our team delivered personalised supplies to villages in Aceh that had lost their schools and homes in the floods.
We passed on school bags, books and coloring items for the school kids and cooking equipment for a number of women who had lost everything. There was much joy and appreciation for these simple acts.
Thank you to Irna, Rina & Rahmi from our team in Banda Aceh for preparing all of the supplies over late nights and the weekend. And to Teguh for distributing and capturing these images.
A story of resilience as Aceh ends its Idul Fitri celebrations. Wising peace and strength to you all.
Mohon maaf lahir batin.

Thank you for your overwhelming support following the floods in Aceh and North Sumatra in late 2025.
We received USD25,000 in donations
These donations were directed to Aceh based organisations including HAKA Forest Nature and Environment Aceh and FKL the Leuser Conservation Forum who moved quickly to reach villages cut off by road with food shelter and medicine. Using satellite imagery to identify those most in need, teams travelled on foot across rivers and landslides to reach remote communities.
Further support was provided through coffee farming cooperatives in the most affected areas in the Gayo Highlands
Our team also delivered personalised support directly to women and children who had lost their homes schools and belongings in the floods
The flood disaster highlights the connection between environmental pressures — including deforestation — and the increasing severity of flood events in the region.

Education Program Quarterly Recap: Q4 2025 📚🌱
In the last quarter of 2025, our education program in partnership with @ecosystemimpactfoundation reached significant milestones across Along on Simeulue Island and Haloban on the Banyak Islands.
Throughout October, November, and December, we conducted 22 interactive sessions across 10 schools, engaging 203 students in dedicated bird conservation lessons. We are excited to share that this program is creating real change: students who previously used slingshots have learned that local species are protected and have committed to stopping this harmful behavior.
By focusing on local species like the Murai Batu, Beo, Silver Pigeon, and Kepodang birds, we are helping the next generation develop a deep understanding of the endangered and endemic wildlife in their own backyards.
From classroom lessons to hands-on birdwatching activities, these students are turning their curiosity into action and becoming true guardians of their ecosystems.
Thank you for being part of this journey to inspire the next generation of nature protectors. 💚

🐢 Turtle Ranger Program | Q4 2025 Recap
We are excited to share the final quarterly data for 2025 from the Turtle Ranger Program in partnership with @ecosystemimpactfoundation 🌊
👉 Patrol Efforts:
The ranger team carried out 92 day patrols and 48 night patrols, ensuring round the clock protection of critical nesting beaches.
📊 Nesting Data
The final months of 2025 showcased the dynamic nature of Bangkaru’s marine life.
👉 Green Sea Turtles: We recorded 725 nests. The nesting activity transitioned from the peak May–August period into a more steady year round nesting cycle.
👉 Hatching Success: We had an 81% hatching success rate in Q4 of 2025, a vital metric that reflects the health of the nests under the protection
👉 We successfully recorded and protected 11 leatherback nests this quarter.
🐊Biodiversity and Wildlife Sightings: Beyond the shoreline, our rangera documented a diverse range of wildlife from crocodiles to monitor lizards as well various endemic frogs and snakes.
Protecting wildlife such as turtles requires boots on the ground every single day. Every donation helps support the rangers to protect the nests and collect important data. Thank you for your support.🙏 #turtleconservation
This reel captures a moment from my Master’s research, co-created with āluān and Ecosystem Impact Foundation, working alongside Indigenous organic coconut farmers to explore soil health and land stewardship.
At the heart of this work: participatory research.
Trust. Reciprocity. Shared learning.
As Western researchers and practitioners, we must interrogate our positionality.
For too long, Global South research has followed imposed, extractive models.
In a world shaped by overlapping crises, I believe the most radical thing we can do is:
slow down · observe · listen · learn · then act — with intention.
This is the energy I’m carrying into 2026:
✨ observe + act ✨
Thank-you to @zaca.rainier for supporting with filming 🎥 🙏

This morning a group of fishermen found a leatherback turtle entangled in their net. Thanks to our partners‘ @yayasanpenyu and @ecosystemimpactfoundation good cooperation with the local communities, the fishermen cut the net and released the turtle back to the sea. Luckily it wasn’t injured. Great job 💪 #leatherbackturtle #rescue #simeulue #turtlefoundation
