We are exhibiting at booth 9-J54 at WindEurope 2026, again this year!
We continue to support the industry’s shift toward nature-inclusive offshore wind farms by deploying our proven eco-engineered cable protection and scour protection solutions at scale.
We will share our latest validation results and ecological data from long-term project monitoring.
Come meet the team to discuss how NID solutions are integrated early into the design of OSW farms to:
- Optimize projects’ eco-engineering parameters and ecological outcomes
- Address environmental and regulatory requirements
- Support developers’ and TSOs’ sustainability reporting strategy
- Empower local supply chains

The port of Algeciras adopted this innovative approach for the construction of its port–city interface project, Lago Marítimo:
To create intertidal habitats within the waterfront’s new sloping breakwater, ECOncrete solutions were recommended by the port—capitalizing on the opportunity to deliver ecological uplift at scale within new waterfront infrastructure.
Coastalock armor units will be installed in the riprap section to provide shoreline stabilization while also creating submerged and intertidal habitats, achieving both structural and ecological goals.
This is another example of a port waterfront designed to deliver coastal protection, public accessibility, and measurable biodiversity outcomes - aligned with the Biodiversity Protection Objective of the AIVP 2030 Agenda.

The future of our marine ecosystems depends on how we build today.
In our recent response to the European Commission’s public consultation on the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), we advocated for the adoption of a formal Mitigation Hierarchy - “Avoid–Minimise–Restore–Offset”.
💡 Infrastructure as valuable Habitat
Nature-inclusive design isn’t just a concept; it’s a proven strategy. We can build necessary marine infrastructure as active hubs for biodiversity - avoiding and minimizing impact at source, as part of the infrastructure itself!
📣 A Call for Policy Coherence
The MSFD revision is a critical opportunity to align marine governance with the high standards of the EU Habitats Directive and the European Climate Law. We must prioritize direct impact reduction at source over disconnected offsetting mechanisms.
Let’s build a blue economy that doesn’t just “do less harm, but actively supports a measurable biodiversity net gain.

Global communications, energy transmission, and national security rely on resilient subsea infrastructure.
These ECOncrete mattresses are manufactured and staged in the yard of a local contractor in the south of Europe - ready for offshore deployment to protect critical seabed assets.

The East Side Coastal Resiliency Project - completed last year - set a benchmark. It received the ‘Envision Gold Award’ for sustainability by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure as well as the ‘WEDG Verification’ from the waterfront alliance for fusing flood protection with improved public access, new recreational facilities, and ecological benefits.
Today, ecological performance and outcomes are no longer a guessing-game but predictable by scientific standards.

Eco-engineered cable protection mattresses are more than engineering structures. In just a few months they can rapidly recruit marine life and develop into functional marine habitats that support diverse communities. These installations provide shelter, feeding areas, and nurseries, contributing to enhanced biodiversity and ecosystem resilience.
Swipe through to explore some of the species that colonize these offshore structures and the critical ecosystem services they provide.
We will be exhibiting at the WindEurope Conference in Madrid next month.
Visit us at Booth 9-J54 to discuss your projects with our experts!

Propeller jet flows can accelerate scouring and undermine port quay wall stability and operational resilience when seabeds are unprotected or insufficiently protected.
ECOncrete, in collaboration with Technische Universität Braunschweig (TUB), conducted 2D physical model tests to further evaluate the performance of ECOncrete Marine Mattresses for scour protection of vertical quay walls under propeller jet flows.
The test campaign was conducted in the hydraulic laboratory flume at the Leichtweiß Institute for Hydraulic Engineering (LWI) and included multiple scour protection configurations to assess their effects on seabed erosion and structural resilience in collaboration with Jonah Dominic Wesche.
Results clearly showed that ECOncrete Marine Mattresses combined with a geotextile or gravel filter layer provided excellent scour protection for vertical quay wall structures, strengthening port infrastructure resilience.
These findings highlight the critical role of integrated scour protection in safeguarding ports, ensuring structural stability, operational continuity, and the long-term resilience of berthing facilities.

NYC waterfronts are hibernating under last week’s snow ❄️
When spring arrives, the park visitors will observe and experience local marine life thriving on these nature-inclusive infrastructures at Gansevoort Peninsula and South Battery Park City Resiliency Project - providing an accessible experience of ecological enhancement along the city’s waterfront.
Needless to say, our bio-enhancing concrete solutions withstand harsh winter freeze–thaw cycles—tested and certified under ASTM C1262-98.
ECOncrete solutions combine community accessibility, resilient design, and optimized materials, ensuring waterfront spaces that are safe, lasting, ecosystem enhancing - and visually inspiring for everyone.

🌊 Coastal resilience, eco-engineered with drycast concrete block mattresses
Communities along the shorelines are looking for resilient AND environmentally sensible solutions. With our concrete block mattresses we have applied our proven technology to stabilize eroding shorelines and create habitat for biodiversity.
The impact:
Streamlined drycast manufacturing: from casting → curing → assembly → deployment.
Reduced labor and errors with smart proven machinery and processes.
Scalable, high-volume output to protect coasts and marine structures.

What is the potential to create natural capital value at scale with concrete marine infrastructure? How do validated solutions for hard coastal structures look and what can we contribute to the restoration of the coastal ecosystems?
The long-term monitoring results from the Port of San Francisco and the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) are an important milestone in the global paradigm change: concrete marine infrastructure can create natural capital value at scale. Hard coastal protection structures can contribute to the restoration of the coastal ecosystems.
The sea walls were installed over 2 years ago in the port and monitored since by the SERC.
