Where are you from originally and how has that shaped your creativity?
My name is Charlie Arnott, I’m 22, I was born in London but grew up in Wolverhampton in the West Midlands of the uk, growing up both my parents were creative and my mum really pushed me.
I used to make swords and props from films and games to play with all the time.
How would you describe the world you’re building with your architectural like and heavily storytelling pieces?
It’s all about making characters for me, I pretty much just play RPG characters customisation in real life lol. Pieces like the castle backpack or the dragon are a really good way to create characters by making something so easy to read but so surreal.
Referencing medieval fairy tales, was that something you grew up with or where does the affection for this era come from?
My first introduction was going to national trust castles at the age of 3/4.
I would always dress up as a knight or Robin Hood or a wizard (iykyk), when I got older I was super into Skyrim and the lord of the rings trilogy while my older brother played Dungeons and Dragons and Warhammer a lot.
I’m just trying to relive that nostalgia through the work I create now, I never stopped playing.
Creating these insanely time consuming clothes and objects, do you think detail and quality craftsmanship survive in these days of hunting the hype?
Working with my hands is the main thing for me, something undeniably real about using diy or traditional hand techniques.
In terms of hype, that is important if you wanna make a bunch of money and a different thing to me.
Similar to casting a spell, intention is everything in creating work which is true to you.
Being close to graduating from @bafcsm , what’s one thing you’re looking forward to do after getting out of university?
I’ve always wanted to do my own thing and now coming up to graduating this coming summer it’s soon gonna be time.
I think the theatre of it all is so fun.
Getting to see people enjoy trying on my work is one of the best feelings. The biggest reach of a goal would be having my own brick and mortar shop, think that would really be an i made it moment for me.
