Happy 100 years on Planet Earth to Sir David Attenborough! 🌍 A poignant reminder of why conservation, education and giving back are so important to our natural habitats. Visit Mou Waho to plant your own native tree 🌴 and help in the island’s reforestation. #conservation #ecotourism #wānaka
Ecosystems are complex and require many steps to ensure the safety and longevity of each species. Whilst the flightless Buff Weka thrive on the predator-free island of Mou Waho foraging on the forest floor, the nocturnal Weta find themselves in need of more daytime sanctuarys. This is where our Weta motels come in to play. Built by students from Mt Aspiring College, they give the Mountain Stone Weta a safe place to shelter during the warm, daylight hours when the birds are foraging. Our guides will show you where to spot these motels on your tour & hopefully there are a few weta checked-in! #conservation #mountainstoneweta #ecoadventures
It's conservation week! Our morning guests have already planted a tree today to help with the reforestation efforts on Mou Waho. Check out just a few images of the 400 trees we have planted on the island this season! #conservationweek #treeplanting #reforestation
The bell birds are singing on Mou Waho! Head to the island and listen to the Korimako as they sing & flit between the trees. By feeding on the fruits, the bell birds have a role in dispersing the seeds, and assisting in the regeneration of the forest. Learn more about the birdsong on the island by reading our latest blog (link in our bio🧷) Or join us on a trip this autumn🌸🌱🍒🎶 #birdsong #bellbirds #mouwaho
Thank you to our partners @naturalhabitatadventures for their support in protecting the predator-free island of Mou Waho. 'Iris' kneeling at Wishbone Falls. This stunning statue sits on the edge of Wishbone Falls in the Matukituki valley. Inspired by the Greek Goddess of the rainbow, she is there to catch the prisms from the waterfall 🌈.
