When I read Jeffrey W. Ruggles’ script for A Love Like This, I was struck by its honesty. At its heart, it’s a story about longing - two people navigating the thin line between passion and responsibility, desire and consequence. What moved me was that it doesn’t present love in simple terms. It shows how complicated, messy, intoxicating, and heartbreaking it can be when we allow ourselves to want more than the lives we’ve built.
Working with Emmanuelle Chriqui and Hayes MacArthur was a gift. Their ability to bring tenderness, and raw vulnerability to every moment made the film come alive.
The chemistry between them is undeniable, but what impressed me most was their courage in leaning into the silences, the fractures, and the pain beneath the surface.
My goal as a director was not to judge these characters but to honor them. To create an atmosphere that felt intimate, immersive, and at times uncomfortably close — like we are peeking in on a weekend we maybe shouldn’t be watching.
Ultimately, A Love Like This is about the impossible choices we face when love collides with the reality of our lives. It asks whether passion can truly rewrite the rules, or if some loves are destined to live only in memory. My hope is that audiences leave the film not with easy answers, but with a reflection of their own desires, compromises, and what it means to truly risk everything for connection.
