Darcy and Kirby, two of our much-loved Urban Search and Rescue dogs, are remembered at the new UK Fire and Rescue Services K9 Memorial in Rettendon 🐾🚒
The memorial was unveiled this weekend and recognises the incredible contribution fire service dogs have made to rescue operations, fire investigations and emergency response work across the UK and overseas.
Throughout their careers, Darcy and Kirby supported communities during earthquakes, building collapses and major rescue operations - standing alongside firefighters when people needed help most.
A lasting tribute to their service and legacy ❤️
Today, we paused to honour the memory of firefighters and fire control colleagues at the National Red Plaque Fire Service Memorial in Rettendon.
We joined firefighters and fire service supporters from across the UK, Europe and North America, alongside members of the Red Knights International Firefighters Motorcycle Club, for a day of reflection and remembrance.
Our Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Chris Else, and Deputy Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Joel Charles attended the service, which included the inauguration of the UK Fire and Rescue Services K9 Memorial.
The memorial honours the service of fire and rescue dogs, and the important role they play in supporting emergency response, fire investigations and community safety.
A powerful and moving tribute to those who served with courage and dedication.
Talk about a purrr-fectly handled morning 😸🦊

London Marathon 2026 ❤️
Huge congratulations to Firefighter Tom Kendle, Firefighter Connor Bay and Watch Manager Ben Whateley-Harris for smashing the London Marathon yesterday.
It’s an unreal achievement on its own - but even more so with Tom and Connor taking on the challenge in full fire kit. It was a scorcher but they powered through 💪
You’ve done all of us at ECFRS incredibly proud 👏🚒
